The most widely circulated Italian publication outside Italy is based in Germany, in Frankfurt, where the magazine Corriere d’Italia is headquartered. This print media, which presents the most famous aspects of Italy abroad, is not produced within the country but is of German origin.

It may seem paradoxical, but it is true. More than 70 years ago, a wholly Italian newspaper was established in Germany through an initiative by Aldo Casadei. The Italian publication in Germany, as stated in its slogan, covers a wide range of national interests: current affairs, fashion, automobiles, religion, culture, economy, and environment, always with a focus on Italians living abroad, particularly in Germany.
Perhaps not everyone knows it by this name, as it was initially conceived as La squilla, with a much more Catholic orientation and aimed at Italian workers in Germany. It was only in 1963 that it adopted its current name. It is also a point of national pride, despite being based abroad, having been awarded the title of best Italian newspaper abroad in 2007.

The Italian community in Germany numbers over 800,000 people
In a densely populated context of Italians like Germany, it is clear that such a journalistic publication spreads rapidly. According to the latest ISTAT research from 2024, there are approximately 820,000 Italians in Germany—almost half of the Italians in Europe (out of a total of 2 million). Among the cities with the highest Italian populations are Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Munich.
