The Best PS5 Plates & Console Covers

The PlayStation 5 may be a quirky big router, but it’s one that is surprisingly customisable through various faceplates. Still, entering a new market for a purely cosmetic accessory can be a bit intimidating, so come with us on a brief tour of the better options that are out there. Now, instead of a glorified modem, you can have a much sleeker PS5: one with different colours; maybe even some abstract artwork on the side. Thankfully, at this stage in the console’s lifespan, there is an awful lot of variety out there. With that in mind, we’ve assembled some of our favourite PS5 plates and console covers – and even a wildcard option.

1. dbrand Darkplates 2.0

dbrand has more attitude than a sassy talk show host looking to get an edgy audience, but in fairness, its range of customisable choices when buying – as well as their considerable range – warrants its place here. Price wise, it varies quite a lot, so this is one to spend time looking through if you’re in the market.

Faceplates of different colours, unique designs and plenty of options to make the middle section of the PS5 console more flashy – yes, these are worth checking out. The products look good and they are very upfront but yes, part of me does have to admire the attitude.

2. Q-View PS5 Hydro Faceplates

So, I’m sure these Q-View carbon faceplates are supposed to look high-tech but instead, they looks like chainmail – albeit a bit more futuristic.

Still, they’re not the most expensive option at £27.99 and jokes aside, they do look really good. So much of the selection process is just personal opinion and if you’re investing in accessories like this, they should fit a brief. This one is a bit more futuristic; indeed, this skin is the gaming equivalent of a bar that serves you a drink in a very convoluted but still fascinating way. If that’s your style, this is a good avenue to explore.

3. Miimall PS5 Plates / Console Covers

If you want your PS5 to blend in a bit more to a modern home, the Miimall PS5 plates – wood option is a great shout and one of the cheaper offerings at £29.59.

A faceplate that makes it look wooden but also perfectly at home if you want to put it on a floor with a wooden aesthetic next to your TV. In a family environment that will be used a lot by people who aren’t diehard gamers, this is surely a smart offering.

4. ElitePlay Spider PS5 Plates with Cooling Vents

If there’s one thing I’m surprised that custom plates haven’t capitalised on more, it’s how you can effectively just change the plates to get a limited edition console.

ElitePlay did exactly that with their *ahem* legally distinct arachnid-person-inspired plates, which offer you a chance to show off your fandom, albeit in a way that’s priced close to the official options at £44.99.

Again, it’s just nice to think of it as a cheaper limited edition console and there are companies I’m crying out to to do this; an expensive deluxe edition game would be massively enhanced with a faceplate with a special design from one of those leading series.

5. Sony Official PS5 Console Covers

Of course, it wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t acknowledge the first-party offerings from Sony. The truth is, Sony’s official PS5 console covers and faceplates are nice, but unremarkable.

These plates sit pretty middle-of-the-road price wise at £49.99, although that comes with the caveat that this article has generally opted for the more budget offerings. If you need a change of colour away from white, particularly if you intend to travel or otherwise get your console dirty, then these can be a good choice. At least with this you also get the relative reassurance of buying from Sony themselves.

6. Uniqlify PS2-Inspired Faceplates

When it comes to retail price, this retro offering from Uniqlify may be on a par with the official merchandise from Sony – but it also gives you the vital option of being able to finally admit that you still miss the PlayStation 2.

Yes, the console that so many of us have such fond memories of can be relived with these cover plates. As someone that spent absolutely hours playing games of I think literally every genre, I couldn’t ignore this. Etsy also has decal skins (i.e, stickers) for the PlayStation One, but then if you have your PS5 standing up, it ruins some of the illusion.

7. PlayVital Blue Flame Decals

While we’ll keep insisting the PS5’s faceplates are surprisingly easy to change, if you don’t quite believe us, fair enough. This writer wouldn’t exactly line up to do it after how difficult it was to get their PS5 back in the early days of its release. But, if that is the case, then PlayVita will help you go back to the old-school route of stickers.

A blue-flame look and stickers for each console, headset, charging station, remote and of course, the controller, these look great and are a comparably cheaper option at £21.99. It may require some nerves when applying the sticker, but the results do look quite impressive.
