Kenya’s new finance secretary announced the return of taxes like the Eco Levy, but he said that some items like sanitary pads will be exempt. The Kenyan government led by William Ruto was forced to scrap these taxes in June, amid widespread public anger. Now that the anger and protests seem to have subsided, the government is raising taxes again.
