The apostle Paul frequently instructed the early church to hold firm to the integrity of the Gospel message and nothing else. The book Gospel People: A Call for Evangelical Integrity is written with similar intent: to direct us not to be distracted or divided by secondary issues and instead focus on what Alistair often refers to as “the main things and the plain things.”
Gospel People explores the challenges that arise within the church when believers become sidetracked by nonessential issues. It wisely reminds us to look only to Scripture for our instruction, only to Jesus for our salvation, and only to the Holy Spirit for regeneration. Gospel People also issues an encouraging call for us to be Gospel-centered in our personal discipleship, in our community involvement, and as members of Christ’s church.
Just as Paul instructed early Christians to avoid division and conflict with one another, Gospel People instructs us to stand firm in one spirit, with one mind, striving side by side for the faith of the Gospel. The author calls us to take to heart what it means to be an ambassador of Christ by centering ourselves firmly in the teaching of the Gospel.
