Since its creation in 2018, EVcharge already has more than 12,000 charging points worldwide and consolidating itself as a benchmark in the management of electric vehicle charging infrastructures in the Spanish market. To learn more about the vision and strategy behind this growth, we interviewed José Ignacio, EVcharge’s Business Unit Manager. With a solid track record in the industry and a focus on innovation, José Ignacio gives us an in-depth look at how EVcharge is leading the shift towards more sustainable mobility.

To begin with, tell us about your professional background and how you came to be part of EVcharge.

“I am an Industrial Technical Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in Commercial Management and Business Development of Products, services and industrial solutions at an international level. My arrival at EVcharge was thanks to my previous stage in ZIV, a national manufacturer of AC chargers, and to the relationship that I consolidated with Jorge Ríos, CEO and founder of Etecnic. Jorge was looking to expand EVcharge’s business nationally and internationally, and the project turned out to be very motivating and challenging”.

What is your role as Business Unit Manager at EVcharge and what are your main responsibilities?

“My main role is to define the vision and strategy of the company, ensuring the fulfillment of the commercial and product development objectives. I am in charge of guiding the company’s action both at the sales level and in the expansion of the EVcharge solutions ecosystem, always adapting to the market and prioritizing the satisfaction of our customers and users.”

What is EVcharge’s strategic vision for the future of electric mobility?

“Electric mobility is one of the great challenges of our society, focused on sustainability and reducing environmental impact. At EVcharge, we believe that the future of mobility will be predominantly electric, with 100% digital users and interoperable charging networks that integrate all players in the electric system to optimally manage demand.”

How has EVcharge’s business strategy evolved from its founding to the present day?

“EVcharge started as Etecnic’s recharging network and quickly expanded to become a platform used by various companies worldwide. Today, EVcharge operates more than 12,000 recharge points and continues to evolve with an innovation roadmap aimed at meeting market and customer needs.”

What role does innovation play in EVcharge’s strategy and how is it fostered within the company?

“Innovation is a fundamental pillar at EVcharge. We have a software development team that permanently evolves the product roadmap to keep EVcharge at the “state-of-the-art” of electric mobility.”
