The Decorilla team paired the client with two talented designers: Rachel H. and Dragana V., both known for their distinctive approaches and proven expertise. Each presented a compelling vision rooted in the eclectic transitional style, yet their interpretations diverged, offering the client two unique paths forward.

Rachel’s moodboard emphasized clean lines and a neutral palette, focusing on subtle elegance with many touches of modernity. Her design brought together sleek furniture with organic textures, creating an inviting living space with a here-and-now type of character.

On the other hand, Dragana‘s proposal leaned more into timeless forms set against bold contrasts. Her concept played with color and texture in a way that felt both dynamic and grounded. Ultimately, the client was drawn to this vibrant interpretation, finding it perfectly aligned with their desire for a home that felt professionally designed but still deeply personal. Their first feedback was clear: “LOVE LOVE LOVE this!. Let’s do it!”

In the redesigned living space, the neutral palette sets a calming backdrop, allowing the earthy tones of the leather chairs and wooden furniture to stand out. A well-chosen mix of textures—from the sleek sofa fabric to the cozy throws—creates a layered atmosphere that feels simultaneously comfortable and refined. In addition, each piece of furniture is carefully placed, ensuring that the space is as functional as it is visually appealing.

Where the room once felt disjointed, the new design introduces a thoughtful layout that enhances its overall flow. By removing unnecessary clutter and opting for a more cohesive color scheme, the designer has succeeded in making the space feel airier. Carefully selected window treatments brighten the room, emphasizing a fresh ambiance that was previously missing.

Enhancing Comfort and Livability

Abundant greenery throughout the room further accentuates the eclectic transitional style. Strategically placed plants add a natural element that softens the space and conveys tranquility. Meanwhile, the art and decor choices, such as the round mirror and abstract wall art, contribute to the room’s sophisticated yet approachable vibe. These elements work together to create an arrangement that feels curated without being overly formal.

One of the design highlights is the interaction between the seating area and its environment. The two leather swivel chairs positioned between the piano and the fireplace not only provide a cozy spot for conversation but also maintain a connection with the rest of the room. The round wooden coffee table anchors the seating setup, offering both aesthetic appeal and practicality. Nearby, the armoire adds a touch of rustic charm, blending seamlessly into the overall design as a functional storage piece.

In short, each element, from the lighting fixtures to the furniture and accessories, contributes to a cohesive, dynamic environment. The room now not only meets the practical needs of a family space but also offers a welcoming atmosphere that invites relaxation.

A Cozy Family Room

In the redesigned family room, we meet a thoughtful interplay of textures, colors, and forms. The layout centers around a large sectional sofa in warm caramel leather, which immediately draws the eye and anchors the space. Complemented by green and black throw pillows, the sofa is balanced by a pair of round, off-white ottomans, providing both additional seating. With its dark metal frame, the carefully selected chandelier echoes the room’s exposed wooden beams, tying the ceiling into the overall design with a subtle rustic touch.

The original space was characterized by mismatched furniture and a layout that didn’t take full advantage of the room’s potential. Conversely, the new design embraces a more open arrangement with a superior flow between the living area and adjacent spaces. By introducing a consistent color palette and upgrading the furniture, the designer has also achieved a more cohesive and polished look.

Juxtaposing the caramel leather, a round, green swivel chair adds a touch of color while ensuring the seating arrangement remains flexible. Positioned to face both the sectional and the fireplace, it encourages interaction within the room. Moreover, the combination of modern lines with classic elements, such as the black metal side tables and the layered rugs, enhances the room’s eclectic transitional style, bridging the gap between traditional comfort and contemporary decor.

The artwork in this room subtly enhances the geometry of the layout without resorting to stark symmetry. The arrangement of the framed pieces above the sofa provides a balanced focal point, complementing the linear lines of the furniture and the room’s overall structure. Meanwhile, the abstract painting on the adjacent wall introduces a softer, organic form.

Stylish Dining Room

The new dining room features a wooden dining table that serves as the centerpiece with its clean lines and robust presence. It’s surrounded by six matching chairs, plus two spare ones for larger gatherings when the table is expanded to its full size. Above the table, a linear chandelier with clear glass globes on a metallic frame adds a contemporary touch. Its simple yet striking design is noticeable yet subdued to the room’s overall aesthetic.

One of the problems with the existing room was the inadequate layout which left the space feeling dim. The new format also makes better use of the space, with the table repositioned to allow for easier movement and better access. Plus, the once-forgotten corners now house carefully selected decor pieces that add character without overwhelming the room.

The artwork on the walls plays a crucial role in the transitional eclectic room’s transformation, acting simultaneously as a focal point and a unifying element. Large, framed prints with floral designs complement the dining set without competing for attention, allowing the room to breathe. The choice of wall color and a soft wallpaper pattern makes the artwork pop and the space feel more intimate.

Lighting has also been thoughtfully addressed in the redesign. Wall sconces along the perimeter further enhance the ambiance, creating a gentle, diffused glow. The strategically placed wall mirror, meanwhile, reflects both natural and artificial light, leaving no corner untouched. This layered scheme ensures that the room is equally functional and atmospheric, ideal for both everyday dining and special occasions.

One particular design challenge was the transitional bedroom with its adjacent home office niche, calling for a blend of restfulness and productivity. It now features a palette of soft greens and warm neutrals, setting a calming tone that permeates both areas.

The bed, with its upholstered headboard and layered linens, anchors the room, offering both comfort and a sense of understated luxury. Nearby, a sleek, low-profile bench at the foot of the bed introduces a practical element, balancing the softness of the textiles with its tufted top and rigid, streamlined base.

The statement chandelier with its globe-shaped bulbs adds a touch of contemporary sophistication that enhances the room’s ambiance. On either side of the bed, table lamps with brass bases provide focused light for reading, while the dark curtains temper natural light from the windows.
