Though It Might Be More Accurate To Blame Easy Anti-Cheat
The release of Windows 11 24H2 has not gone perfectly, but it has been a bit smoother than with many of Microsoft’s new style of major updates. The loudest complaint so far comes from online gamers with a Intel Alder Lake+ processors, as Easy Anti-Cheat can cause a system to freeze or BSoD. The solution to roll back to an Easy Anti-Cheat driver from before April isn’t a great solution, as the game may detect the out of date driver as an attempt to cheat. If you play something called Asphalt 8: Airborne, you also want to avoid 24H2 for now.
There have also been reports from users who have systems with an 11th Gen Core CPU that has certain versions of Intel Smart Sound Technology installed. They are also seeing a BSoD after updating. Students that use the Safe Exam Browser application should avoid the update for now, there are some fingerprint sensors with incompatible firmware that can cause you headaches and finally there are some wallpaper customization applications that have issues. It is unknown if that includes a certain app mentioned on Podcast 792.
However that is it as far as known issues go which makes this quite a successful release.
The vast majority of systems have upgraded without issue, so unless you fit into one of the above scenarios you should be good to try it out. If you do happen to have a system with one of these problematic drivers installed, you should not see the Windows 11 24H2 update when you check Windows Update as Microsoft has created two compatibility holds to prevent it from showing up. For now if you don’t see the update, don’t try installing it manually.
