In this much-anticipated game, you take on the role of Jan Dolski, a lone worker stranded on a hostile planet, facing the challenge of survival in a harsh, unfamiliar environment. We’ve seen several trailers showcasing immersive cutscenes of the game, and a recent hands-on demo provided a closer look at the gameplay, where Dolski strategizes to survive with the help of alternate versions of himself called “Alters.”
Xbox Game Pass members, who were promised a day-one drop in 2024, have been especially eager since the March 2023 Xbox Developer Direct announcement. But it looks like the wait isn’t over yet, as the developers have decided to push The Alters release date back. Let’s break down everything we know about the delay so far.
The Alters Xbox Release Date Delayed to 2025
The game was previously set to launch in 2024 on Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with exclusive day-one access included for Xbox Game Pass PC and console subscribers.
Unfortunately, fans will now need to wait until Q1 2025 for the release of The Alters, according to a tweet on The Alters’ official X page. The message partly states,
“We regret to inform you that, after thorough review, your upcoming mission in search of Rapidium has been postponed from [REDACTED] to Q1 2025.”
This shift in the release date appears to be a result of development progress, as 11 Bit Studios aims to ensure a high-quality experience for players.
In a report on the Polish finance site Bankier, Przemysław Marszał, President of 11 Bit Studio, said,
“The production record “The Alters” was very tight. There was uncertainty whether developers have enough time to close all the work we all expect. After so many years of production, the risk that the game will have any shortcomings is unnecessary for us.”
The delay is disappointing for players excited to explore the world of The Alters, especially those who had a great experience with the demo. However, most comments on the tweet announcing the postponement were positive. Many fans voiced their support for the developer’s decision, acknowledging that taking the extra time can better the gaming experience.
It’s also worth noting that The Alters will still be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, even with the shift in its release date to Q1 2025.
