#3,200 – Chick-fil-A Streaming

My favorite fact about Chick-fil-A used to be that they put one in Atlanta’s football stadium despite the face that Chick-fil-A isn’t open on Sundays. But now my favorite Chick-fil-A fact is that they’re starting their own streaming service.

As Ars Technica puts it:

“Look out, Peacock. There’s reportedly a new video streaming service that’s avian-themed.

The fast-food chain Chick-fil-A plans to launch a video-streaming service, Deadline reported today, citing anonymous sources. The streaming service is expected to focus on ‘family-friendly’ content and include original TV shows, the publication said.”

Granted there are already too many streaming services. If you want to watch every NFL or MLB game this year you need YouTube TV, Amazon Prime, Peacock, and Apple TV not to mention also needing to have Max, Netflix, Paramount, Hulu, Disney Plus, etc. for all your entertainment needs. Cord cutting was supposed to break us away from the monopoly that cable companies had. Instead, these streaming services are now joining forces, bundling together in order to compete with one another. Before long they will all be bundled together in one package. As part of something we’ll call cable.

There’s also way too much content as there is. Hundreds of original shows and movies across all these platforms. In addition to every TikTok and every YouTube video and every social media reel. It’s literally impossible to watch them all. And I haven’t even mentioned watching playbacks of our dreams which may soon be possible.

So, should Chick-Fil-A really be starting a streaming service? When we’re already drowning in a sea of choices? Shouldn’t they just be sticking to getting us to eat more chikin? Well, they aren’t even the only company/brand looking to enter into Hollywood. It’s a growing trend across the board. According to that aforementioned Deadline article:

“Chick-Fil-A, known for its fried chicken sandwiches, is the latest company outside of the entertainment industry to move into making its own originals. It joins the likes of Lyft, which has produced shows such as Lucky Lyft, a game show hosted by Bob The Drag Queen, and Airbnb, which previously produced documentary Gay Chorus Deep South that aired on MTV.

Chick-Fil-A, which operates over 3,000 restaurants in the U.S., has previously produced content for its own site before including Stories of Evergreen Hills, a series of short, animated films. It has also diversified into other areas such as making children’s puzzles and games under its Pennycake brand.

One source told Deadline that it was a positive move for the reality TV industry, which has been struggling in recent years, and another source added it was a good opportunity, comparing it to branded content.”

Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of Chick-Fil-A. I’m a Raisin’ Cane’s fan at heart but I do like the fact that their #1 is a just a plain chicken sandwich with pickles. Whatever entertainment they cook up I’ll be sure to check out!

Is Chick-Fil-A streaming the Greatest Idea Ever?
