There is a debate that has been brewing up this week and it surrounds our midfield.

We all have our opinions and thoughts on Enzo Fernandez, and I think it’s probably safe to say that perhaps he is more suited to other leagues, right? But even still, I think he’s a class player and can still have a place in this Chelsea team.

Right now, he has dropped to Chelsea’s B-Team, but I think that’s more because Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Cole Palmer are better, or perhaps more important to this starting Xl than Fernandez is?

Fernandez has a lot to offer though, if you use him right and he has willing runners on the end of his passes. His vision is incredible, and he is a real creator in midfield, grabbing five assists from his last three matches played for club and country, at the time of writing this.

I’ve always rated Fernandez, but he has been a bit hit or miss at Chelsea. Maybe some of that has been down to his personal life issues. I mean, breaking up from your family can seriously effect the mind, and maybe we need to cut him some slack for that?

I think technically he is superb. I also think he could be an assist king in this Chelsea side.

I believe that if he doesn’t play league games then he will ask to leave in the summer, and who would blame him? There’s serious interest coming in from clubs already. But do Chelsea, and more importantly Enzo Maresca, actually need to be looking at ways to get him back in and ‘saving’ his Chelsea career?

The only way we do that right now though, is moving Cole Palmer to the right, and that right there is a whole other debate.

Palmer has suffered a bit centrally when he is man-marked. So is moving him out the right a good solution for that? A solution that also brings Fernandez back into the starting Xl for league games as he can then line-up in the midfield three with Lavia and Caicedo? If they start all three then it means Enzo plays as a 10, and for me that doesn’t work; he needs to play deeper to be able to effect the game with his passing.

I’ll be honest, I’m very split on all of this. I like Palmer in the middle because I think he can dictate play and control the game more. But I also do see the shouts to move him back to the right and can see the benefits of that as well. Will Maresca do that? I’m not so sure.
