As newer hardware is released in the gaming world, it becomes a little harder to repair when things go wrong. The HDMI port is one of the biggest pain points when it comes to repairing or refurbishing the PlayStation 5. Ever since the port was released on the PlayStation 3, there have been issues that seem to extend to every new console release. To make things easier for those who need to repair or even find a replacement for the HDMI port on their PS5, we’ve written a detailed guide on how to do so.
Step-By-Step Guide to Repairing a PS5 HDMI Port
After you’ve determined that there is no picture when you turn on the console and connect it to your television, you can open and begin working on the inside of the PS5. Then, follow these directions:
- Remove the plastic covering from the sides of the console by gently pulling them away from the PlayStation.
- Ensure that you are looking at the side with the fan facing you.
- Remove all the screws that keep the black panel around the fan in place.
- One of these screws is located under the tamper sticker. If you do not wish to remove the sticker because you have a warranty or are thinking of sending it to PlayStation for repairs, then do not screw through or remove this sticker.
- Just below the tamper sticker is another black panel that you can gently remove by pulling it toward you.
- Under this panel are two cables that you must disconnect.
- One of these cables connects to the inside of the console while the other connects to the fan.
- With the fan cable removed, you can begin to remove the fan by unscrewing it.
- At this point, you can also take a moment to dust your fan off if you can see buildup.
- You’ll then want to remove the hard drive by carefully peeling away the tape holding the ribbon cable in place.
- Unplug any visible cables to make removing the silver plate in the next step easier.
- Remove all the screws holding the silver plate that was behind the hard drive.
- Pull the silver plate out of the console by gently pulling it towards you, revealing the motherboard.
- It will feel stiff, but as long as you removed all the screws, it will come off effortlessly.
- You’ll then want to remove the two silver cross plates located directly above the console’s motherboard.
- Using incredible care, remove the motherboard and place it aside.
- This is what you’ll be working on to repair the HDMI port.
- Using a soldering iron and a heat source, you’ll be able to remove the old HDMI port from the board.
- Be careful to clean the area where the port used to be before replacing it.
- Carefully attach the new port to the board and solder it in place.
Now, when you plug the console back in and connect it to a television with the HDMI cable, you should see a picture. If you are still having issues with repairing your HDMI port on the PS5, you can check out the following video:
