On Wednesday, ditches were cleared, and closed road signs are in place just in case around Calloway County.
“So, for the last three days, we’ve been unclogging bridges, unclogging culverts, cleaning out ditches, and trying to make sure the water flows smoothly. As long as it doesn’t get backed up. We’re still going to water on the road, but if we can keep it flowing, it’ll flow a lot smoother and exit the area faster,” said Chris Franklin. He is the supervisor of the road department.

Franklin said his crew has coordinated with emergency management, the sheriff’s department, and fire and rescue to keep the public safe. Their only ask? Stay off the roads.
“One important thing is, if there are signs or there’s water on the road, don’t drive through it. I mean, because you don’t know whether that road has been washed away underneath it or not. So any repairs will be made Monday when the water goes down,” Franklin said.

Franklin said a good rule of thumb to follow if there isn’t a road closed sign is if the water crosses the median line, don’t try and drive on that road. Also, be extra careful while driving over the weekend because repairs won’t be made until Monday when the water goes down.
