Chelsea lost last night thanks to their own weaknesses, both in the squad and in the individuals players on the pitch. There’s been analysis from all sides on what’s going wrong, both on and off the pitch.

But you can’t blame it all on Chelsea players – there was a totally sublime moment of skill from an opposition player who scored a true goal of the season contender.

A huge boot up the field from Bart Verbruggen flew over the head of the Chelsea back four, but Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma was underneath it, and he somehow plucked the ball out of the sky while still in stride, before cutting neatly inside Trevoh Chalobah and whipping the ball into the net.

You can see the goal in the clip embedded here:

Perhaps inevitably, that’s led to a wave of rumours bubbling up today about potential moves for the Japan star, who was the subject of heavy interest from Saudi Arabia in January. According to Fichajes in Spain, we’re sniffing around the Seagulls star and thinking about a €90m bid in the summer.

Chelsea have no chance of signing tricky winger

Now we don’t know how much attention Fichajes have been paying to Chelsea’s transfer activity over the last few years, but on this evidence the answer is “not too much.” We’re focused on buying young, cheap players, at at 27 years old with a €90m valuation, Mitoma is neither of those things.

We certainly are looking at wingers, but not in that price bracket.

As much as we’d like to have Mitoma in the squad right now, there’s just no way this is going to happen in the summer either, especially with Estevao Willian coming in to offer (hopefully) some of that same one on one skill in wide areas.
