In a collaboration previously announced back in late September last year, futbol legend and current Juventus player Cristiano Ronaldo announced today that he’s been made a playable character in the sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves, a game renowned in fighting game circles as one of the best games in the genre’s history.

Until relatively recently, fans had regularly joked about never getting a sequel that fans had been hoping for since 1999 until it was announced in March of last year. The game in question takes place two years after the original game, after a cliffhanger with breakout character Rock Howard, his adoptive father Terry Bogard, and Rock’s blood uncle, Kain R. Heinlein.

Real-life figures being announced are largely historically risky situations for games and entertainment in general, in case allegations or details about a given situation come out surrounding said individuals, or in occasional cases have come out in the past. In other less bothersome cases, they can end up being a product of their time, dating the item in question, and some have stood their respective tests of time without issue, of course, so it’s a matter of the person in question’s character, or even raised interest in a title that would not have garnered attention otherwise. It is an open question what Ronaldo’s involvement will do for City of the Wolves, there’s slightly under a month to go, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves finally releases on April 24, 2025, and it has a second Open Beta test starting March 26 and going until March 31. The Open Beta will be available on all platforms the final game will also be on, which include the PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.
