Chelsea have committed a lot of time and effort into pursuing a move for Ipswich striker Liam Delap according to The Athletic.
The Blues are set for another busy summer and it’s said they will look to fund their moves in the market by selling as many as seven or eight players.
Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back, and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Chelsea have put a lot of time and effort into Delap pursuit
The Blues failed to sign a striker last summer despite pursuing Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, whilst they also didn’t address the issue in January.
Chelsea are in desperate need of an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, and have been strongly linked with Liam Delap.
The Ipswich man is also attracting interest from Manchester United, and the 22-year-old had scored an impressive 12 league goals in a struggling Ipswich side.
Delap is said to have a £30m release clause if Ipswich get relegated, making him an appealing prospect for a number of Premier League clubs.
Chelsea are believed to be leading the race and The Athletic have reported the Blues have committed a lot of time and effort into pursuing a move, and are possibly best placed to strike a potential deal.
The reports adds United’s interest is also serious, with Bayern Munich and AC Milan also keen on the Manchester City academy product.
The Athletic add Chelsea have other striker targets if a move for Delap fails to materialise, and he’s previously worked with Enzo Maresca in the City academy, where he was part of the side which won the Premier League 2 title.
Delap is certainly one of, if not Chelsea’s main target and given how much effort and time the Blues have committed to pursuing his signature it would be a huge disappointment to miss out.
