You might have been grinding Call of Duty for years, but there’s a good chance you haven’t fully tapped into how useful melee weapons can be in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. It’s not just for flashy finishes, as learning how to equip your melee weapon actually gives you a crucial edge on the battlefield.

Swapping to your knife or any melee weapon grants you a nice speed boost. That extra mobility can be pivotal when you’re sprinting to secure an objective in modes like Domination or Hardpoint, or when you need to make a swift escape from a squad hot on your tail in Verdansk. In close-quarters combat, having your melee out can help you outmaneuver enemies who aren’t expecting you to be so nimble.

Here’s how to pull out your melee weapon in CoD so you can start using it to your advantage.

Equipping your melee weapon is pretty straightforward. By default, just hold down your melee button and you’re good to go. Here’s how it works on different platforms:

  • PC: Hold the V key.
  • PS5/PS4: Hold R3 (right stick).
  • Xbox: Hold RS (right stick).

How to change your melee weapon activation

If holding the melee button feels a bit too slow in the heat of battle, there are faster ways to get your melee weapon out. You can include it in your weapon cycle or set a specific keybind for it. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open your Settings.
  • Go to Keyboard & Mouse or Controller, depending on your setup.
  • Under the Combat tab, look for Dedicated Melee Weapon Activation.
  • Choose the activation style that works best for you.

Using the right stick to equip your melee weapon works just fine on a controller. But if you’re playing with a keyboard and mouse, setting a dedicated key can make switching way quicker. To do it:

  1. Go to Settings > Keyboard & Mouse.
  2. Open the Keybinds tab.
  3. Scroll down and head to the Combat Advanced Keybinds.
  4. Under the Weapon section, find Switch to Melee Weapon and assign your preferred key.

I personally mapped one of my mouse buttons to my melee weapon so I can switch way quicker.
