The Pet Food Committee Meeting will take place on Thursday August 8, 2024 from 1:15 to 3:15 PM Central Time. The agenda of this session includes a discussion on the voluntary copper maximum claim. This item was previously voted against by AAFCO, however it is being discussed again due to a Hill’s veterinarian’s paper on the topic being retracted. The veterinarian author of this paper was part of the AAFCO working group, which could have influenced the vote based on flawed science. Considering the arguments that Hill’s veterinarians put up against this at previous meetings, this particular discussion should be ‘interesting’.
The Pet Food Committee Meeting will also discuss the implementation of pet food label updates.
The Ingredient Definitions Committee Meeting will take place on Wednesday August 7, 2024 from 1:15 – 3:45 PM Central Time. This session agenda includes a discussion regarding the soon to be ended agreement between AAFCO and FDA regarding pet food/animal food ingredients. We hope to learn more in this discussion about what will happen in the future with pet food ingredients; who will define new ingredients, AAFCO, FDA, or both?
