MG has cut prices of one for the third time this month, continuing a price slashing spree that has delivered Australia’s most affordable EV ever.

The price best-selling EV model, the MG4 51 kWh variant, has been cut  to $30,990 drive away, labelling it the “EV for everyone” in the company’s words.

It is a significant price drop – more than $8,000 below the August list price of the MG4 Excite 51 of $37,990 before on-roads.

MG Motor Australia’s chief commercial officer, Giles Belcher said in a statement: “We truly believe the MG4 is the EV for everyone and now with these offers, including the MG4 Excite 51 from $30,990 plus factory bonus offers across all other trims we have an MG4 for every buyer.”

He noted that the MG4 (51kWh) had won more than 15 global awards as well as earning a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

The 51 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack offers up to 350 km of WLTP range.  It is paired with a rear-mounted 125 kW motor that can get the car to get to 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.7 seconds.

The AC charging speed on this car is 6.6 kW while DC can bump that up to 88 kW.

Unlike the MG ZS EV, the MG4 is the first to use MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) with a skateboard-like design and a rear-wheel drive powertrain paired with a thinner battery design.

Earlier this month, MG started cutting prices of its EVs, bringing prices of its mid-spec 64 kWh MG4 variants down through a $4,000 factory bonus.

That came less than a fortnight after the brand cut the prices of the mid-spec variants of its ZS EV SUV model.

The 64 kWh variant also delivers up to 450 km of range on a single charge, over 99 km more than the Excite 51 variant.

In August, MG also set a new benchmark in Australia by offering an industry-leading 10-year or 250,000km warranty across its entire range, including the MG4’s Excite 51 variant.

That is up from the 7-year warranty the company previously offered on its Australian-delivered vehicles.

MG4 has been the brand’s best selling EV, with 2024 sales of over 3,300 cars.

The latest cut not only helps in maintaining strong interest in the already popular electric hatchback but also aims to deliver industry-leading value not previously delivered in our market.

The pricing is effective from today until 31 October 2024.
