US stocks notch third consecutive week of gains as inflation eases

Inflation: Economists anticipate the US core personal consumption expenditure price index, an inflation measure closely watched by the Federal Reserve, rose 2.7 per cent year-over-year in August, up from 2.6 per cent. The same PCE report is forecast to show consumer spending moderated to a 0.3 per cent gain on a monthly basis compared with a 0.5 per cent rise in July.

US consumer sentiment: The University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index is expected to show a final reading of 69.3 in September, up from 67.9 in August.

Fedspeak: Fed governor Michelle Bowman will participate in a conversation before the Alabama Bankers Association.

Harris: Vice-president Kamala Harris will campaign in Douglas, Arizona, a border town in the key swing state, where immigration is likely to be top of mind for many voters.
