Man United ‘monitoring’ Marc Guehi ahead of January transfer window

Man United are still keeping tabs on Crystal Palace’s in-form defender, Marc Guehi, ahead of the January transfer window.

Manchester United made two centre-back signings over the summer, acquiring both Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, bolstering the back line heavily.

Erik ten Hag’s side have certainly looked more solid in defence to start this term, though the Dutchman is still seemingly eyeing a move to sign another centre-back at some point. Just yesterday, the Jarrad Branthwaite rumours persisted.

Now, Football Insider believe United still have eyes on another Reds-linked-defender; Marc Guehi.

According to their latest information, United are among the sides who are ‘monitoring’ the 24-year-old centre-back ahead of the January transfer window.

It feels like Newcastle United remain the favourites to sign Guehi, who had a brilliant European Championship tournament with England over the summer. However, United, along with Liverpool, are also keen.

Guehi’s contract expires in 2026, so he will not come cheaply. Newcastle had bids in excess of £60m turned down over the summer, so you’d assume that would be the starting point.

From a Red Devils perspective, I’m not quite sure where they’d find that sort of money in the mid-season window. We have to remember that Ten Hag had to sell before he could buy over the summer. I’d imagine that will still be the case in January.

If Guehi remains at Palace until next summer then I can make a stronger case for the Old Trafford club to make a move for the Englishman, though even then it may be tough, particularly as other positions should be the focus (left-back for example).
