Maryse Condé, chez elle et dans le monde [Maryse Condé, at home and in the world] is an international colloquium hosted by La Région Guadeloupe and the University of the Antilles, with Kaz a Condé, on October 4, 2024, at the LEPOINTE amphitheater on the Fouillole campus in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

Description: On Friday, October 4, 2024, Région Guadeloupe will continue its cultural year dedicated to Maryse Condé with an international colloquium. It has designated the University of the Antilles as the operator for the scientific implementation of this major event, the culmination of a rich cultural year for the literary world, but also and above all for our Guadeloupe territory.

While she is a woman of letters whose talent no longer needs to be proven, Maryse Condé rose, on April 2, 2024, to the rank of immemorial authors. This international conference is presented as a worthy tribute to the Guadeloupean woman who has made her country shine on the international literary scene.

MARYSE CONDÉ, CHEZ ELLE ET DANS LE MONDE [Maryse Condé, at home and in the world]: Maryse Condé, the traveler, the nomad, the rebel, as we like to call her, has found and rediscovered herself in the world: in mainland France, on the Ivory Coast, in Guinea, Ghana, England, Senegal, the United States… Her work is rooted with various anchors, in the thought of the Other, but if Maryse Condé is certainly a nomad of the world, she is also and above all Guadeloupean, marked by her land which remains a home for her, her native country, Guadeloupe. At home and in the world, she has made a strong, brilliant voice resound, sometimes rebellious and provocative, but always right. This voice is the one that points out the ravages of colonialism and post-colonialism; this voice is the one that tries to paint the truth of the heart, that laughs, that cries; this voice is that of a woman, a journalist, an educator, a writer, a committed independence activist, who speaks about the world, who speaks of life, without embellishment. Guadeloupe is “the place that made [her] what she is, [her] parents, [her] childhood memories, created something that [she] will never be able to change.”

The Guadeloupe Region and the University of the Antilles, in conjunction with the Kaz a Condé, are honored to celebrate this Friday, October 4, the imperishable figure of Condé, honored to allow everyone to discover, or rediscover, on this occasion a work marked by the seal of immortality. It rises today as the happy resonance of a singular voice that finds its echo in the heart of every Guadeloupean, of every lover of prose.
