“Murder on Biltmore Way”  – Repeating Islands

    The Cuban Research Institute (Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs, Florida International University) and Books & Books will host the presentation of Murder on Biltmore Way, the 2024 translation of El crimen de Biltmore Way (Eriginal Books, 2020) by Uva de Aragón on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 7:00pm, at Books & Books, located at 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables, Florida.

    The author, Uva de Aragón (writer and former assistant director, CRI) will be present with translators Jeffrey C. Barnett (Washington & Lee University) and Kathleen Burger-Barnett (Virginia Military Academy).

    Description: The murder of a young art curator in her luxurious Coral Gables condominium leads Detective María Duquesne and her shrewd colleague Iván Fernández to interview members of a wealthy family at their homes in the best neighborhoods of Miami. Soon a second murder occurs in the gardens of the famous Vizcaya Palace. Are the deaths of an elegant American from New York and an undocumented Hispanic woman related? After numerous twists and turns in this fascinating suspense-filled thriller, the answers will amaze readers.

    Uva de Aragón (Havana, 1944) has published a dozen books of poems, essays, short stories, novels and a play. She comes from a family of Spanish and Cuban writers and continues to write mainly in Spanish, although she has resided in the United States since 1959. Some of her work, translated into English, has appeared in various anthologies. The bilingual edition of her award-winning novel The Memory of Silence/ Memoria del silencio was translated by Jeffrey C. Barnett. Chico (Cubanabooks, 2014) is being taught at several universities. For many years she was a columnist for Diario Las Americas and later El Nuevo Herald. Until her retirement in 2011, she was Associate Director of the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University. Dr. de Aragón graduated with a PhD in Latin American Literature from the University of Miami. She has received several literary awards in the United States and Europe.
