Leaving a Legacy: Why I Chose To Support Greenpeace
My connection to the environment began when I was just 12 years old. I remember our local council cutting down a large gum tree that stood proudly across the road from our house. Watching it happen brought me to tears. That moment sparked my environmental awareness, which only grew stronger over the years. About 15 years later, I decided to join Greenpeace, driven by the sight of our environment suffering in so many ways.
Being a lover of water, I’m particularly passionate about ocean research and conservation. There’s something extraordinary and mysterious about the world beneath the waves, and I believe it’s a realm worth protecting.
One of my greatest frustrations is seeing business and government decisions being made with monetary gain prioritised over the health of our environment and ultimately, our own survival as a species. For me, the Earth’s well-being should always be the top priority.
I was inspired to support Greenpeace by an old work colleague who joined the organisation at a time when doing so was seen as quite radical. Her courage motivated me to get involved, and that’s also why I’ve chosen to leave a gift to Greenpeace in my Will. I want this incredible organisation to keep fighting for our planet long after I’m gone.
Living on the sand dunes of Rainbow Beach in Queensland, I feel blessed to be surrounded by such abundant and diverse wildlife. I’m part of a community that cares deeply for our beautiful beach, and it’s of paramount importance to me that we continue to protect and preserve environments like this. There’s nothing better than the fresh ocean air and it’s a constant reminder of why we need to keep fighting for our planet.
