Springfield, Ohio has found itself in the national spotlight due to current events. Over the last few years, an estimated 20,000 Haitian migrants have settled in Springfield, a city of just 58,000. That means that 1 out of every 4 Springfield residents are Haitian migrants. Springfield is a rustbelt city that has long suffered economically from a loss of manufacturing jobs. The city hasn’t seen a population boom until the recent Haitian migration. Some of the problems being presented include a large increase in car crashes, increases in rent, fewer available jobs and a strain on the cities resources, schools and infrastructure.
