Wintry weather is set to make a return to parts of the area from late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Parts of Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, and a small section of Western Kentucky could see some snow, while the southern half of the area will just have to deal with cold rain.

This system will move in by midnight, with widespread rain and snow expanding quickly overnight.

Areas of rain and snow will still be ongoing for the morning drive on Tuesday, with snow most likely for areas near and north of the Ohio River.

Amounts in the 1-2″ range are most likely, however an isolated higher total can’t be ruled out. Temperatures will be hovering near or just above freezing where snow falls, which should limit the majority of accumulation to grassy and elevated surfaces. However, some slushy or slippery spots can’t be ruled out on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, so use extra caution for your Tuesday morning drive in these areas.
