Chelsea officially announced the signing of Dastan Satpaev on Monday and believe he has “special skills” according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues agreed a deal worth £3.3m with add ons included with Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan to sign the 16-year-old, and he will join the club when he turns 18.
The transfer is a record deal for the Kazakh league and Satpaev has signed a five year deal with the option of a further year at Stamford Bridge.
Romano on latest Chelsea striker signing
Despite being just 16 Satpaev has already appeared for the first team and has also featured in the Uefa Youth League.
Romano has shared some insight into Chelsea’s thoughts on the teenager and they are excited about his potential.
“Chelsea is always working on future talents! They believe this 16-year-old striker, who they signed, Dastan Satpaev, has special skills,” he told his YouTube channel.
“They beat a German club that offered more and got him £3.3 million, with add-ons included.”
It’s great to see the club continue to secure exciting young talents for the future, but supporters will be left wondering why the first team wasn’t strengthened in the January window.
The goalscoring issues at the club are obvious and Chelsea have been crying out for an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, so fans can be forgiven for being frustrated at seeing yet another youngster being signed, which does nothing to solve the current issues in the first team.
Chelsea currently have a real issue at striker with Marc Guiu sidelined for a number of weeks, whilst Jackson missed the FA Cup tie against Brighton.
Christopher Nkunku once again struggled in the number nine position, having just one touch in the Brighton box, and the optics of signing yet another youngster doesn’t look great and further shows how there doesn’t seem to be a plan for the short to medium term, it’s all focused on the long term.
