1. How to create a cute pear in Illustrator
Step 1
After you’ve opened Adobe Illustrator, create a new document (File > New). Enter 850 px Width and 850 px Height in the new dialogue window, and press OK. This will be your new artboard.
Now, let’s start our cute fruit illustration by creating a pear shape. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw a vertical ellipse (fill color R=234, G=153, B=57).
While keeping the ellipse selected, go to Effect > Warp > Inflate and, in the new dialogue window, enter the options you see below. Then press OK.
After that, we want to apply another effect, so go to Effect > Warp > Fish and, in the new dialogue window, enter the options you see below. Then press OK.
Expand this shape (Object > Expand Appearance).

Step 2
Our kawaii fruit needs a kawaii face, so let’s create just that. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw the first eye. To create an even circle, hold the Shift key while drawing. Then, change its fill color to R=99, G=25, B=46.
To create another eye, select the first one and drag it to the right while holding the Shift and Alt keys. Shift will move it in a straight line, and Alt will create a copy. Make sure the eyes are placed symmetrically.
Let’s give it some cheeks. Using the fill color R=214, G=108, B=80, create a small ellipse under the pear’s eye. Keep it selected, and while holding the Shift and Alt keys, move it to the right. You just created two cheeks! Place them symmetrically.

Step 3
Now, we will create a kawaii mouth. Take the fill color from the eyes using the Eyedropper Tool (I). Make this fill color a stroke color by clicking on the Swap Fill and Stroke (Shift-X) button on the left panel.
Now, use the Ellipse Tool (L) to draw a small horizontal ellipse.
Take the Scissors Tool (C) and click on its left and right anchor points. You just split the ellipse into two parts: an upper part and a lower one. Delete the upper part, so that you simply have an arch. On the Stroke panel (Window > Stroke), you should check Cap: Round Cap.
Using the Shift and Alt buttons, create another copy of the arch so that they connect.

Place the kawaii mouth on the pear. On the Stroke panel (Window > Stroke), you can adjust the Weight of this stroke, as it depends on how big the face is.

Step 4
Now, we want to add some texture to the cute fruit. Create a tiny circle on the pear (fill color R=214, G=117, B=37). While holding the Alt button, move it to the side to create a copy. Now create more copies and place them wherever you’d like.
Click on the mouth to have its stroke color, as we want to create the stem. Create a curve on top of the pear using the Arc Tool. Adjust the Weight of this stroke on the Stroke panel. The fruit drawing of a pear is ready!

2. How to create a cute avocado in Illustrator
Step 1
To create an avocado, start by creating a copy of the pear shape and changing its fill color to R=112, G=135, B=57.
With this shape still selected, go to Object > Path > Offset Path… In the new dialogue window called Offset Path, enter Offset: -10 px (feel free to play around with this setting), and then press OK. Change the fill color of the inner shape to R=211, G=216, B=145.
Now, let’s make the avocado seed. Using the Ellipse Tool (L), create an ellipse with the fill color R=160, G=94, B=45.

Step 2
Create a new copy of the pear’s eyes and place them on the avocado. Adjust the space between the two eyes.
Then, create a copy of the pear’s cheeks and place them on the avocado. Adjust the space between the two cheeks, and change their fill color to R=242, G=156, B=139.

Step 3
Take the Ellipse Tool (L) and draw an ellipse (fill color R=214, G=108, B=80).
If you have a newer version of AI, you’ll notice that the selected ellipse has a handle on its right side. Use this handle and move it counterclockwise until you get half of the ellipse.
Then, delete the fill color and set the stroke color to R=178, G=77, B=57. Then, take the Line Segment Tool (/) and, on the Stroke panel (Window > Stroke), check Round Cap. Increase the stroke Weight on the Stroke panel a little bit. After that, draw a vertical line as shown below.
Change the stroke color to R=99, G=45, B=26, and draw a horizontal line as shown below. That’s the avocado’s mouth. Group it for easy moving (right-click > Group).

Place the mouth on the avocado. We’ve finished drawing the fruit!

3. How to create a cute strawberry in Illustrator
Step 1
Using the Ellipse Tool (L), draw an ellipse (fill color R=211, G=81, B=74).
While keeping it selected, go to Effect > Warp > Inflate and, in the new dialogue window, enter the options you see below. Then press OK.
Expand this shape (Object > Expand Appearance).

Step 2
Create a new copy of the avocado’s eyes and place them on the strawberry. Adjust the space between the two eyes.
Then, create a new copy of the avocado’s cheeks and place them on the strawberry. Adjust the space between the two cheeks. Next, change their fill color to R=242, G=124, B=124.

Step 3
Using the Ellipse Tool (L), draw a tiny yellow ellipse (fill color R=234, G=153, B=57) as a strawberry seed.
Then, while holding the Alt button, create more copies of the strawberry seeds.
Add a green ellipse on top of the strawberry as a tiny leaf (fill color R=180, G=188, B=104). Rotate it to the left, and be sure you place it behind the strawberry. To do this, right-click the mouse and choose Arrange > Send to Back.
After that, add two more green leaves as shown below. The strawberry is done!

4. How to create a cute tomato in Illustrator
Step 1
After you’ve created a new red ellipse, go to Effect > Warp > Inflate and, in the new dialogue window, enter the options you see below. Then press OK.
Expand this shape (Object > Expand Appearance).

Step 2
Create a new copy of the strawberry’s eyes and place them on the tomato. Adjust the space between the two eyes.
Take one part of the strawberry’s mouth (just one arch) and place it on the tomato as its cute little mouth.
Then, create a new copy of the strawberry’s cheeks and place them on the tomato. Adjust the space between the two cheeks, and change their fill color to R=188, G=64, B=40.

Step 3
Create a copy of the strawberry’s green little leaves and place them on the tomato.
Add two little circles as highlights (fill color to R=244, G=169, B=152). And now your cute tomato is done!

5. How to create a cute lemon in Illustrator
Step 1
Start with a new yellow ellipse (fill color R=247, G=184, B=82). While keeping it selected, once again go to Effect > Warp > Inflate and, in the new dialogue window, enter the options you see below. Then press OK.
Expand this shape.
Add a tiny ellipse on top. While holding the Shift and Alt buttons, create a new copy on the bottom, just like in the image below.

Step 2
Create a new copy of the tomato’s eyes and place them on the lemon. Adjust the space between the two eyes.
Take the fill color from the eyes using the Eyedropper Tool (I). Make this fill color a stroke color by clicking on the Swap Fill and Stroke (Shift-X) button on the left panel. Using the Line Segment Tool (/), draw a horizontal line between the eyes.
While keeping the line selected, go to Effect > Distort & Transform > Zig Zag… Enter the options you see below and press OK. The Zig Zag options below are just approximate, so feel free to adjust them to your liking.
Then, create a new copy of the tomato’s cheeks and place them on the lemon. Adjust the space between the two cheeks. Change their fill color to R=242, G=156, B=139.
Now we want to add some texture to the cute fruit: create a tiny circle on the lemon (fill color R=234, G=153, B=57), and while holding the Alt button, move it to the side to create a copy. Now create more copies and place them wherever you’d like. Our cute lemon is done!

6. How to create a pattern in Illustrator
Step 1
Now, gather all your fruit drawings together and make sure that each one is grouped separately.

Step 2
Next, we are going to make the actual fruit pattern. Select all the kawaii fruits, and go to Object > Pattern > Make.

You’ll get a look which will be something similar to the one below. Feel free to rotate and move each fruit as you want.
You don’t need to enter the options you see below—simply adjust them to your liking. The most important parts here are the options Grid, or Brick by Row, or Brick by Column (you should choose what suits your style the best). Put a checkmark next to the category Move Tile with Art. The other options will be different than mine. Feel free to play around with them and choose what you like the most.

Step 3
To make the pattern more interesting and to cover the empty space, add some colorful dots. You can take the fill color for the dots from the fruits using the Eyedropper Tool (I).
Once you like how your future pattern looks, press the button that says Done (it’s located over by the Pattern Options window). Now your new pattern is in the Swatches panel (Window > Swatches).
After that, you can safely delete your fruits from the artboard because they’re already stored as a fruit pattern in the Swatches panel.

Step 4
Take the Rectangle Tool (M), click on your artboard again and enter 850 px Width and Height. Place the new rectangle in the middle of the artboard. It can have any fill color but no stroke color.
From the Swatches panel (Window > Swatches), choose your new pattern.

Step 5
Let’s create a background for our pattern. We’re creating it separately—that’s why you can easily change its color later.
Hit the Rectangle Tool (M) and click on your artboard. In the new dialogue window, enter 850 px Width and Height. Change the fill color to R=255, G=253, B=245.

Step 6
Place the background under the pattern. To do this, cut the background (Control-X) and place it underneath (Control-B), or just right-click on the background and choose Arrange > Send to Back. Look at how cute it is!

Step 7
Here are some interesting things you can do with your Illustrator pattern. First, you can scale it up or down. Right-click on the pattern and choose Transform > Scale…
In the new dialogue window called Scale, choose the options you see below and then press OK. See the difference? Feel free to change the percentage of the Scale option.

Step 8
The second thing you can do is rotate your pattern. Again, right-click on it and choose Transform > Rotate…
In the new dialogue window called Rotate, choose the options you see below and watch how your pattern changes.

Step 9
And the third thing you can do is to change the color of the background. Make it dark and see how the cute fruit pattern pops.

Congratulations!
