“The beginning is the most important part of the work.” —Plato
Over the years, so many people have asked me about the story of Passive Income MD. How did we get started? What were our goals? Why did we decide to focus on passive income through real estate and entrepreneurship?
Today I want to share our story, from the beginning to today. Because, it turns out, beginning is the most important part, as Plato said. The first actionable step leads to the next and, one day, you can find yourself achieving and exceeding your goals.
In telling you our story, the goal is to leave you inspired to begin authoring your own. And we hope to collaborate with you on that journey. For eight years, Passive Income MD has connected people looking to join the path toward financial freedom with communities of support.
But everything big starts off small.
Why “Passive Income MD”?
Early on in my career as a physician, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by colleagues that were investing in real estate to generate passive income. That caught my interest. And at that point in my life, I started learning everything I could about how to invest in real estate.
After a few investments, I started seeing some success in it. Passive income was going into my bank account! It was exciting, and I started sharing it with as many people as I could. Somebody quickly told me I should talk about this stuff online. Then I realized that there aren’t many places where physicians can come together as a community to learn about investing, passive income, real estate, and entrepreneurship.
I was afraid at first and second-guessed myself. I had never done anything like that before. So I had to learn how to write and publish a blog. With a few blogs ready to publish, I settled on “Passive Income MD” for my blog’s title (or PIMD for short).
Why that name? It felt clean, simple, and to the point. This would be a space where doctors could come to learn about strategies to add streams of passive income to their net worth.
Why passive income? As physicians, our income is linked to our time. If we work, we get paid. If we go on vacation, we don’t get paid. It’s the hamster wheel of medicine. Once I realized the compounding power of passive income through real estate, I realized that if I grew my passive income enough, I could unlink my time from my income. That became my goal: take back control of my time.
I knew that this wasn’t just true for me. It could be true for anybody. Passive income can create financial freedom and give you back control of my time. And I wanted to share my strategies with my colleagues.
Passive Real Estate Academy
Throughout this period, I certainly ran into some investment challenges. But I learned from those and figured out how to invest better and smarter—something I’m still doing. Then I started the podcast and the additional content we produce at PIMD. I wanted to make it as accessible as possible for folks.
Then it dawned on me. As physicians, we are really, really good students. Probably the best out there; we’re pros at taking classes. That’s when we created something called Passive Real Estate Academy. It not only teaches people how to invest in real estate without being a landlord—investing passively—it also covers proper due diligence. This means anybody looking to invest passively can access and evaluate syndications, REITs, and funds.
But we’re always looking for ways to improve our content for our community. That’s why we added a personalized coaching element. Coaches help you figure out your financial goals and how to crystalize them within your portfolio.
With thousands of students having gone through successfully, Passive Real Estate Academy is still going strong today. Join the waitlist to enroll and join one of our many supportive communities.
Speaking of communities…
Conferences and Communities: PIMDCON, LGS, & LGA
After the success of the course, we thought it would be beneficial to meet in person. That’s when we created a conference, one we call PIMDCON. Our goal was to put together a community—some of the smartest people I know in real estate and business—and talk to each other about investments. We learn from each other, share stories, and add a lot of value to each other’s lives. And it worked.
As it evolved, we now offer two conferences. They are the Physician Real Estate and Entrepreneurship Conference (PIMDCON) as well as the Leverage and Growth Summit. Not only do these serve doctors looking to create passive income through real estate, but we also help those looking to create their own business. Maybe that’s a practice. Or maybe it’s bringing your own product to market—folks looking to leverage their medical degrees to create their ideal lives and do really cool stuff.
We are proud that PIMDCON has helped attendees create life-changing income since its inception.
But we weren’t done. We wanted to add a community where physician entrepreneurs could get together, share resources, and help each other out. That includes what it takes to cultivate a resilient mindset and receive support during that tough period of starting a company. That’s where our Leverage and Growth Accelerator Community comes in, what we call LGA.
Hundreds of people have joined and have worked to guide each other, create accountability, and help each other build businesses. Already, amazing results have come from it. The best part? We made it accessible and simple.
The PIMD Mastermind: Momentum MD
Things have been growing so quickly here that we’ve even started a mastermind. We call it the Momentum MD Group. Many people have been asking me what it’s about. Somebody described it to me as a group of “Navy SEALs” within the Passive Income MD community. It can certainly feel like that.
But this group welcomes people who are committed to making the most happen in a short period of time. It has generated a massive impact by creating accountability, meeting together in person regularly, and learning from each other. It’s been one of my biggest privileges to see everyone grow.
But for all of these groups and communities, I still very much value one-on-one relationships. I still do personal coaching to help people build their real estate portfolios, build their businesses, set up systems, and shape their ideal lives. All of it goes back to the beginning, to my original purpose. I love supporting people and helping them achieve their outcomes.
