iciHaiti - Security : Warning from the Minister of Defense to the media

In a note, Jean-Michel Moïse, Haiti’s Minister of Defense, asks the media to be cautious in their reporting, emphasizing that it is not always necessary or prudent for the public to know everything that is happening.

Minister Moïse explains, “[…] Military deployments can be strategic, tactical, or classified. Making troop movements and maneuvers public is reckless, dangerous, and can lead to prosecution…

[…]

The reason police and military operations are kept secret is simple, entirely reasonable, and universal in professional armies and police services: if the enemy is aware of the attack, they can flee or hide equipment. Even a few hours’ notice is enough to take measures to protect those targeted by the operations and [hopefully], in the minds of the enemy, eliminate at least some of the attackers (our police officers and soldiers). Media, be careful and responsible in your reporting.”
