Things you didn’t know about Tommy Fury’s opponent, Kenan Hanjalic
‘TNT’ Tommy Fury’s (10-0, 4 KOs) first serious professional boxing opponent in three years has been announced as Kenan Hanjalic (4-1, 3 KOs).
The pair are set to clash on Friday, May 9 in Budapest, Hungary.
The Englishman is currently based in Budapest while he trains for his comeback. He underwent hand surgery after his win over KSI in Manchester, a bout which was not licensed by the British Boxing Board of Control.
Tommy will fight on the same card as his brother, Roman Fury, who will face Croatian Josip Pehar in a heavyweight contest.
Who is Kenan Hanjalic?
Kenan Hanjalic is 27-years-old from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His professional boxing debut was on December 21, 2019 in Germany. He fought in the away corner against 2-0 Muhamet Haldaraj and narrowly caused the upset with a mixed decision win scored at 38-37 x2 and 38-38.
He won his next two bouts by first-round knockout, in 2021 and 2022.
Kenan didn’t fight for over two years, between April 2022 to August 2024, but had two bouts last year – in August and Boxing Day.
He has lost just once, in his last fight in December, against unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Angelo Morejon, who won the WBC Mediterranean heavyweight title in his next fight.
He has three knockouts from four wins, resulting in a 75% KO ratio.
He has only fought five times in five years.
Hanjalic is ranked #6 in the Bosnian heavyweight division.
He is managed by Zeljko Stegic, who also manages unbeaten heavyweight Danijal Alanic, ranked #2 in Bosnia.
In his spare time, he’s a bit of a thrill seeker. He enjoys of off-road racing on quadbikes, 4×4’s, sports cars, motorbikes, and he also goes white water rafting, paragliding and winter skiing.
He is a father to a young daughter.
