How to Save Time at the Vet? 11 Vet Approved Tips for Being Efficient at the Vet

The information is current and up-to-date in accordance with the latest veterinarian research.

Learn more »

Going to the vet’s office isn’t much different than seeing your doctor. You want to make the most out of your time with minimal hassle. Your veterinarian also wants to use their time effectively to help you and your animal with the problem at hand.  After all, taking your cat to the clinic is never easy. Cats often find the whole process of visiting the vet very stressful, so being as efficient as you can and being prepared for your trip can make a big difference.

Cats don’t always make it easy for their owners. They are masters at hiding signs of being unwell which often means that cats are really quite sick by the time their owners realize there is a problem.  We’ve put together some tips for keeping your vet visit as smooth and efficient as possible so that you get the information you need and your cat gets the treatment they need.

The 11 Tips for Being Efficient at the Vet’s Office

1. Not Everything Warrants a Physical Trip to the Vet

Throughout your cat’s life, they should visit the vet for an annual exam to update vaccinations and do any necessary health tests. An in-person visit is essential for this. However, every cat owner understands the stress their feline companions experience when going to the clinic. So, it’s helpful to know that not all trips warrant a physical trip to the vet. Thankfully, teletriage sites like PangoVet exist, where you can schedule an online meeting with a veterinarian. This can be extremely helpful when you have minor questions about, for example, your cat’s behavior, but it can also be useful in deciding if your cat’s problem warrants an in-person vet visit or not.

It’s worth noting that online virtual exams aren’t a substitute for an in-person visit, but in some cases they are very useful. If your cat requires hospitalization or surgery, is experiencing a medical emergency or requires tests, you will need to take them to your vet (or an emergency clinic), but for basic questions about your animal, sites such as PangoVet can be extremely useful.  Remember that in most countries and states, your animal will have to be “under the care” of a veterinarian for them to be prescribed medications.  This means your pet has to have been seen by the vet, in person, within the last 6 months.  Nevertheless, virtual exams can offer a viable option for veterinary advice in some cases.

2. Make a List of Your Cat’s Signs

Your vet uses your observations of your cat to help signpost what might be going on. Your veterinarian is at a disadvantage when you bring your pet to the clinic because your cat undoubtedly acts differently away from home. Their stress is in overdrive. Therefore, the information you can provide your vet is critical. Many signs are non-specific, such as loss of appetite or lethargy, but they help your vet begin to build up a clinical picture with valuable details.

Besides, you know what’s normal and abnormal for your kitty. Write your concerns down to give your vet as much info as possible. It will save time at the vet and will ensure you don’t miss any of the details.  Having all the details from the start will help your vet reach a diagnosis and treat your pet faster.

3. Anticipate the Questions Your Vet May Have

Appetite, activity level, and litter box habits are things your vet will undoubtedly ask you to detail. Make their job more efficient by having the answers ready. Anticipate other questions based on the complaint. If your cat is vomiting, note how often and the consistency. If your cat loses their appetite, notice how long it’s been going on and whether they eat at all or just their favorite foods.

4. Write Down Your Questions

You undoubtedly have questions and concerns. Do yourself a favor and write them down so that you don’t forget anything important. Remember that you have your vet’s undivided attention during your appointment. Get the most out of your time. No question is silly. It’s better to get all the facts so that you understand what is wrong with your cat and the plan to make things better.

5. Gather Any Necessary Medical Records and Medications

Your vet needs the complete picture to understand what is going on. Ensure you have your cat’s vaccination record, and if your cat takes any medication, ensure that you know which medication, how much and how often they take it. If this is your first visit to a new vet, it is worth calling the practice ahead of your appointment to make sure they have received your cat’s medical history from your previous vet’s office.

6. Get Your Cat Used to the Carrier Before Going to Your Appointment

You’ll need to transport your cat to the veterinary clinic in a carrier.  As a general rule, cats are highly suspicious of cat carriers, and the best way to reduce this suspicion is by getting your cat used to the carrier ahead of needing it.  Have your cat carrier in the living room so that your kitty can sniff and investigate it on their own time. Feed your cat treats in the carrier on a normal day so that they start to find the carrier less stressful.  When you are planning to put your cat into the carrier to transport them to the vet clinic, we suggest putting something that has your cat’s scent on it, like a favorite blanket or towel inside it to make it seem more familiar. There are even pheromone sprays that can help your kitty relax more easily.

7. Purchase a Good Quality Cat Carrier

Cat carriers come in all shapes and sizes.  Ensure you have a cat carrier that is large enough for your cat and that is made of hard plastic, as these are much more secure.  Carriers that have a removable lid are ideal so that your cat can be examined while remaining in the comfort of their box.  Being able to remove the lid also means that a frightened cat doesn’t have to be dragged out of the door of the carrier for their examination.

8. Allow Your Cat to Use the Litter Box Before You Go

Give your kitty time to use the litter box before your appointment. Your cat may soil the carrier, making it unpleasant and more time consuming for everyone. Remember that felines are clean animals, so sitting in a dirty carrier is undoubtedly uncomfortable and unsettling to them. Giving your cat time to use the litter tray before they go into the cat carrier can help avoid this situation.

9. Consider Using a Pheromone Spray

Cats in general don’t like being out of their routine, and they certainly don’t like going in a car.  The noise, the smell and the unpredictability of the situation makes a cat very unsettled. One study found that using a synthetic feline facial pheromone product can reduce stress during transport. This can mean that your cat arrives at the vet’s practice in a more relaxed state, which in turn can help your vet carry out a useful clinical examination.  Cats that arrive at the vet’s practice in an already stressed state can be much more difficult to handle.

10. Complete Any Online Forms Ahead of Time

If your vet has an app or online system, check out the site for any forms you may need to complete before your visit. Some clinics ask clients to fill out forms before annual exams to ensure their records are up to date. You can save a lot of time by completing them before your appointment and having hard copies ready if necessary. The administrative staff will appreciate your efficiency.

11. Arrive Early for Your Pet’s Appointment

The administrative staff strives to schedule appointments with enough time based on the issue. That may mean little leeway between time slots. Get the most out of your allotted time by arriving a few minutes early for your appointment. This will allow your cat to acclimatize a little before their consultation starts.  If there is time, vets often like to give cats time alone in an exam room to settle down after the ride to the clinic, so take advantage of it.

Final Thoughts

Being prepared before a vet trip can really improve efficiency and allow your vet to do their job as well as they can.  While you can’t remove the disruption and discomfort to your cat entirely, you can make the process go as quickly and efficiently as possible with simple measures. Some optimize your vet’s time by providing information and anticipating questions. Others prepare your kitty for the ordeal. All make the best of an unpleasant situation.

Guest Removed From Delayed Villa Vie Odyssey Cruise Over Texts

0

Future passengers of Villa Vie Odyssey have been waiting a long time for their lives at sea to finally begin. But for one prospective guest, the voyage will never take place.

Jenny Phenix, a 68-year-old resident of Florida, was excited to join the continuous world cruise offered by Via Vie Residences, which is meant to circumnavigate the globe every three and a half years.

She even sold her possessions, liquidated her businesses, and gave up her home in order to prepare to live on the high seas.

However, Phenix has been removed from the ship’s roster due to her negativity in the WhatsApp texting app concerning the delayed voyage, which the cruise line claims has poorly impacted morale.

“We have received over a dozen formal complaints from residents regarding your continuous complaints and negativity. This behavior has significantly impacted the morale and well-being of other passengers,” Chief operating officer Kathy Villalba told Phenix.

“Given the overwhelming feedback, we must cancel your contract permanently to uphold the well-being and satisfaction of our community,” continued Villalba.

But considering the voyage has been delayed since May of 2024, stranding many passengers in Belfast, Ireland, where the ship is based, some frustration is understandable.

While Phenix admits to being one of the more outspoken members of the various WhatsApp groups, she insists she was always respectful and that other passengers appreciated that she was willing to ask the tough questions – especially as the delays kept coming.

The actual messages sent by Phenix have not been released to the public, so it’s unclear what was really said.

“I was never rude or disrespectful and I never participated in personal attacks. These were private conversations – I posted nothing on social media platforms,” Phenix told The Telegraph.

“The frustration among the residents grew after every delay. I tended to be one of the more outspoken in asking important questions. Many of the residents thanked me privately for speaking up for the entire group,” continued the ousted passenger.

The “emotionally devastated” woman has now been forced to move in with her daughter to figure out her next steps.

This blow comes after the mother of two invested in Life at Sea’s residential program, which was cancelled after the company filed for bankruptcy at the end of 2023, leading her to turn her sights to Villa Via Residences in the first place.

Phenix is still owed $30,000 (USD) from Life at Sea Cruises – which will make her comeback even more difficult this time around.

More Bad News From Villa Vie Residences

While many might suggest that Phenix could appeal the cruise line’s decision, another statement obtained by The Telegraph proves that the residential cruise line will not be budging.

“Ms Phenix broke multiple terms and conditions and signed a non-disclosure agreement. The founding residents voted and agreed to uphold her suspension and we plan on respecting that decision,” said Villa Vie’s CEO, Mike Petterson.

That said, things aren’t exactly going swimmingly for the remaining residents either. The 929-passenger vessel, which was formerly known as Fred. Olsen Cruise Line’s MS Braemar, has been plagued by delays and technical difficulties since its transformation from cruise ship to residential ship began.

One of the key issues was related to problems with the ship’s outdated rudder stocks, an essential piece of navigation equipment, that were showing signs of wear and tear after 30 years of service.

Another delay came from an issue with the steelwork in the grey water tanks onboard, which are essential for processing waste correctly and hold water from kitchen uses, showers, laundry facilities, and hand washing stations.

As recently as September 10, 2024, more bad news came from the cruise line after the 25,000-gross ton vessel didn’t pass her sea trials with flying colors – likely leading to more delays as the cruise line works to obtain the necessary certification.

The sea trials are a series of evaluations that test the ship’s major components, such as propulsion, speed, and navigation, that must be successfully passed before a new (or revamped) vessel can enter service.

This blow comes shortly after Villa Via Residences said it would stop paying for guest accommodations in Belfast while they wait to set sail, meaning guests will now have to pay out of pocket.

The cruise line explained that the company has already spent around $500,000 in hotel costs and couldn’t feasibly spend any more.

As of the time of publication, Villa Via Odyssey still does not have an official date in place to embark on her continuous world voyage, and it’s unclear when one will be set.

Once she does enter service, the transformed vessel will operate back-to-back world cruises that are supposed to call on 425 destinations in 147 countries, including more than 100 tropical islands.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Necklace for Every Neckline

0

When it comes to accessorizing, necklaces are among the most versatile and expressive pieces you can wear. However, finding the right necklace for your neckline can be a bit tricky. The perfect necklace can elevate your outfit, complement your body shape, and highlight your best features. This guide will walk you through the essentials of choosing the perfect necklace for every neckline, ensuring you always look your best, no matter the occasion.

Understanding Neckline Types

V-necklines are flattering and elongating, making them a popular choice for both casual and formal wear. They create a vertical line that draws the eye downward, which can be enhanced with a necklace that mirrors this shape. For a V-neck, consider necklaces that follow the contour of the neckline.

A pendant necklace or a simple chain that ends in a delicate pendant can complement the V-shape beautifully. Avoid chunky or overly ornate necklaces as they can overwhelm the neckline and disrupt the streamlined effect.

Crew Necklines

Crew necklines are classic and versatile, sitting close to the base of the neck. They provide a great canvas for layering and adding visual interest. With crew necklines, you have a lot of flexibility in your necklace choice.

A statement necklace can add a touch of glamour to a crew neck. Opt for bold designs with intricate details to create a focal point. Alternatively, you could choose a simple, elegant chain or a strand of pearls for a timeless look. Avoid very long necklaces as they can look out of place with the close fit of a crew neckline.

Scoop Necklines

Scoop necklines, with their rounded and open shape, are ideal for showcasing necklaces that follow the curve. The openness of a scoop neckline allows for creativity and layering.

A necklace with a gentle curve or a delicate crisscross pendant can enhance the scoop neckline. Consider a choker or a shorter necklace that highlights the décolletage without overpowering the neckline. For a more dramatic look, a longer necklace with a drop pendant can also be an excellent choice, creating a vertical line that complements the scoop.

Off-the-Shoulder Necklines

Off-the-shoulder necklines are perfect for showing off your collarbones and shoulders. The key here is to choose a necklace that accentuates this feature without competing with the neckline.

A choker or a short, delicate necklace works well with off-the-shoulder styles. This type of necklace keeps the focus on the neckline and shoulder area. Avoid long necklaces or chunky pieces that could distract from the elegant silhouette of the off-the-shoulder design.

Halter Necklines

Halter necklines create a unique shape by tying around the neck and leaving the shoulders bare. This distinctive cut requires a necklace that complements the exposed area.

For halter necklines, a short necklace or a choker that fits snugly around the neck is ideal. This choice ensures that the necklace does not get lost amidst the halter design and instead adds a stylish touch. Avoid long necklaces as they can disrupt the neckline’s clean lines.

Choosing the Right Material and Style

The material and style of your necklace can also impact how well it complements your neckline. Here are some tips on selecting the right material and style for your chosen neckline.

Materials

Different materials can alter the overall look and feel of your necklace. Consider the occasion and your outfit when choosing the material. Gold and silver necklaces offer a classic look and can be matched with a variety of necklines.

For a more modern or edgy style, consider materials like stainless steel or leather. Gemstones and pearls add a touch of elegance and can be particularly striking with formal wear or special occasions.

Styles

The style of your necklace should enhance rather than overpower your neckline. For instance, a simple chain or a dainty pendant is often best for casual or everyday wear, while more elaborate designs like statement pieces or multi-layered necklaces are suitable for formal occasions.

When selecting a necklace style, think about the overall balance of your outfit. A bold necklace can act as a centerpiece, while a more understated piece can subtly complement your look.

Final Tips

To ensure that your necklace choice perfectly complements your neckline, always consider the overall silhouette of your outfit. Pay attention to how the necklace interacts with both your clothing and your body shape. The goal is to create a harmonious look that enhances your natural features and personal style. Remember that personal preference plays a significant role in accessorizing. While these guidelines can help you make informed choices, don’t be afraid to experiment and find what makes you feel most confident and stylish.

15 Reasons Your Church Needs a Single Moms Ministry

0

“I walked into a church at 21 years old with two children hanging from my hips, overwhelmed by the burden of life’s woes, certain I would drown from the bleeding heart I nursed. I had no money, few friends, and even less hope. The weight of my choices, my pain, my abuse, my reality, was almost too much to bear. I was certain I didn’t fit in anywhere, especially the church!” These words were penned almost two decades ago by Jennifer Maggio, Chief Executive Officer and founder of The Life of a Single Mom. They spawned a national nonprofit that has gone on to serve over 1,000,000 single mothers and almost 2,000 churches (and counting) around the U.S. with one plan – no single mom should walk alone.

In 1951, approximately 22% of the United States population lived in a single-parent home. By 2018, that number had risen to 35%. According to Pew Research Center, nearly 65% of babies are born into single-parent homes (2018). A baby is more likely to be born into a single-parent family today than any other time in history and all indications are that those numbers will continue to rise. While divorce rates have fallen to 36% (CDC/NCHS National Vital Statistics System, 2018), this is likely only due to couples choosing cohabitation versus marriage.  Throw in grandmothers raising grandchildren alone and young widows, and we’ve got an epidemic on our hands. However, despite the rising numbers and the many challenges facing these families, including poverty, imprisonment, education, mental stressors, and more, many churches do not have a formal single moms’ ministry.

There are many reasons why churches have not moved forward with a single moms’ outreach and ministry plan, but some could include:

The following list is our attempt to address some of the above concerns (and others) while giving churches and ministry leaders creative ideas on how to best serve the single mother-led family.

  • Single moms are in your community, even if they aren’t in your church. While some churches do not have a large number of single mothers actively attending their church, they certainly exist in the community. There are 22 million single parents in the United States with approximately 82% of the parents with domiciliary custody being mothers. They are raising millions of children. While statistics vary, it is estimated that 67% of these families do not actively attend a local church. This lends to a ripe mission field. Starting a single mom’s ministry is a great way to get single moms in your area connected to your church, building relationships, and ultimately forging a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Once your church has started an effective ministry, it is much easier to actively seek these families out.

  • The children of single moms are the next generation. Being strategic about how to reach the children of single mothers is important to the future of our churches and communities. The next generation of doctors, lawyers, teachers, pastors, entrepreneurs, mothers, and fathers are being raised in single mother homes. Many of these children lack a strong male figure, making the connection to the church and a spiritual family all the more important. Connecting single mothers into a community of other Christians provides comfort to these families, and often forms natural mentoring opportunities for both them and their children. It takes a village. Proverbs 22:6, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”

  • Single moms’ ministries do not require an extensive budget. Let’s not overthink it. Single moms’ ministries, outreaches, Bible studies, and support groups can be very low to no cost. They are simply gatherings that provide childcare, a meal, a lesson, and  meeting space. Many churches can facilitate potluck meals and volunteer childcare sign-up to offset costs. Further, then can plan ahead to integrate a small budget into the annual costs of the church, or they can fund raise via a bake sale, garage sale, or similar to find the necessary funding to sustain the ministry over the long haul. For more ideas on how to effectively fundraise for your single moms’ ministry, visit here. (KW, find the fundraising e-book or article that I wrote for here).

  • Single moms’ ministries do not support sin. Drug rehabilitation programs do not support drug use. They simply meet a need that is presented in an individual’s life. The same is true for single moms’ ministries. While we take care to point out that single mothers arrive to their journey in a variety of ways, including many who had no choice in the matter, we pose this question. Does a single moms’ arrival to her journey preclude certain single moms from ever being ministered to by your church? It seems that many churches fear that a formal single mothers’ ministry program within the church may allude to support of unbiblical behavior. We disagree. Single moms’ ministries meet families where they are, introduce them to Jesus, disciple, forge strong friendships, and provide teaching, fellowship, and growth. We believe every single mom should have a strong local church family.

  • The statistics paint a harrowing picture, but our God is much bigger. While difficult to read, we see single mothers and their children face heartbreaking statistics. Too often, single mothers slip through the cracks, working two jobs, juggling carpool and homework, and often drowning under the weight of life’s pressures. However, when a lifeline exists by way of a single moms’ support group within a local church, many single mothers cite improved emotional, financial, and parental health metrics, as well as a robust network of friends and a strong relationship with the Lord. As churches launch these effective ministries, we see single mothers connect, plant, and contribute. We continue to see single mothers shatter statistics with a God who is well-able to do exceedingly, abundantly more, than we can think or imagine.

  • Single moms’ ministry is not the same as singles’ ministry. While there may be some parallels between single moms’ ministries and singles’ groups, they are uniquely different. We are not suggesting that single moms can’t assimilate into a singles’ group and enjoy it, of course. We are merely highlighting that sometimes they won’t. For example, singles’ groups tend to be co-ed, which can create some complications for a mother who is recently divorced and vulnerable. Likewise, singles’ groups can include childless singles who may not understand the complexity of dating while parenting alone or other challenging parenting seasons. Further, singles’ ministries, nationally, tend to serve an older crowd of 35-55+ years old, which can present discomfort among younger single mothers.  (Of note, we have seen single mothers’ ministries, divorce recovery ministries, AND singles’ ministries find parallel in a church with great success! In other words, it doesn’t have to be either/or, it can be and.)

  • Single moms’ ministry is not the same as divorce recovery ministry. While we love such programs, divorce recovery ministry is usually 10 to 12 weeks, depending on the curriculum your church uses. Upon completion, we find that many attendees need more fellowship among peers and do not automatically find another Bible study to attend. This makes single moms’ ministry a great place to segue divorce recovery graduates into. Further, many single mothers were never married, making them ineligible for divorce recovery coursework.

  • Hurt has often left single moms isolated and alone. Again, while we know that single motherhood stories vary widely from family to family, consider this. Imagine the trauma of a mother whose spouse has just abandoned her in pursuit of another relationship, while she raises four young children alone. Consider the pain of a mother who had to flee a domestic violence situation with two young children in tow or the shame of a mother whose marriage ended due to her own infidelity and poor choices. What becomes of her children? Maybe there is childhood sexual assault, deep depression, generational fatherlessness, or other factors that have left a single mom clinging to her bed more frequently than she clings to the Cross. Satan does a masterful job of convincing these mothers that they are not wanted in a local church. Many single mothers do not have a support system and wind up in isolation because of their hurt and pain.

  • Single moms lack support. Single mothers are often the only ones doing the care taking of their children. They do the cooking, cleaning, tutoring, caring for sick children, chauffeuring, cheer leading, and so much more all on their own. Many single mothers work full-time or even work two jobs. The saying, “it takes a village to raise a child” is true, but for many single mothers their village consists of one person: themselves. They often lack a deep support system that can help pick up the slack when they’ve had a difficult day at work, when they are sick, or when they simply need a listening ear. Single moms’ ministries at church can often birth friendships that become a peer-to-peer support system for single mothers within their church community. (Note: When thinking of ways to support a single mother, offer free childcare for a night or a ride for her child to practice. Cook her a warm meal or give a gift card to help with gas. Be creative!)

  • Your church’s traditional Bible study may present barriers. Bible studies are a great way for people to get connected and dive deeper into the Word of God. However, some Bible studies present barriers for single moms to participate. For example, it’s not always easy to find childcare for Bible studies that do not offer it. Further, mid-week services may be impossible for moms who work two jobs or who have no help with getting children to complete their homework and bath time. The cost of childcare and finding a reliable sitter alone can be a deterrent for single mothers. That is why it is so important to remove these barriers through a single moms ministry. Holding single moms ministry on a Friday or Saturday night, including a free meal and childcare, gives moms the opportunity to attend without having to worry about such barriers.

  •  A short-term class offered to single moms is not enough.  Parenting, financial education, unwed mom parenting classes, and divorce recovery programs are all valuable. (In fact, we’re big supporters of all of those!) However, they only address an immediate need over a short period of time. Single moms’ support groups and ministries are the long-term solution that allows these valuable educational classes to pass the baton to the next ministry leader. A single mother’s struggles are not going to be solved in a twelve-week parenting class. Her struggles are multifaceted and ongoing, requiring long-term support! That is why it is so important for single moms ministry to be an ongoing event, because as her children grow and her finances change, so will her need for support!

  • Single moms’ groups grow disciples. Like most Bible studies, single moms’ support groups create an environment for moms’ faith to be stretch, their Biblical understanding to grow, and their ability to both be discipled and disciple others. Can you think of a better place for single mothers to grow in their faith than in the church? Not only are we making disciples of single mothers, but we are also making disciples of their children. These mothers are raising the next generation, and it is imperative that we give them the understanding of what it takes to raise their children up in the way that they should go. Through a single moms’ ministry, we have the unique ability to reach not only mom, but her child as well!

  • Single mom’s ministry is evangelism. Outreach beyond the walls of the church is always an opportunity to reach others for Christ. While we mentioned earlier that approximately 67% of single mothers do not actively attend a local church, it is also worth noting that many single mothers cite that their church attendance directly resulted from an outreach within the community, such as a free car wash & oil change, single moms’ conference, food pantry distribution, clothing drive, or the like. This ministry opportunity creates a beautiful conduit for the local church to reach those who may not otherwise have a home church or feel welcomed there.

  • Single moms’ groups create a learning environment for life skills, including the ability to delve into healthy money management, Biblical parenting, and overall spiritual and emotional wellness. Imagine spending your entire adult life married or with a partner, and then finding yourself having to do the parenting alone; or managing on a single income for the first time ever. Single moms ministry offers a unique way to teach single mothers in an environment where they don’t feel judged or looked down upon for their current situation! It even gives the ministry leader the opportunity to tailor the curriculum to single mothers specifically, making it more beneficial for everyone in the group!

  • Single moms’ groups promote fellowship among peers. Like youth groups, widows’ ministry, sewing groups, or countless others, single moms’ groups can serve as an opportunity for single mothers to connect with others in a similar life season. It is not often that single mothers have the opportunity or the time to connect with friends, much less those in a similar life season. Single moms groups serve as a way to combat  isolation, create community, and forge deep, lifelong friendships. We recommend carving out thirty minutes in the beginning of your single moms’ meetings for fellowship, including serving a warm meal to the moms in attendance. This is a great way for moms to mix and mingle with each other!

  • Ongoing single moms’ ministries within churches can be a beautiful way to reach both women and children, making a long-term impact on families.

Only In 2025?! Plastic Apple Watch SE Delayed

    0

Apple’s anticipated plastic Apple Watch SE, a more affordable version of the budget smartwatch, may not be released until next year. The device, initially reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, is still in development but has encountered manufacturing delays. The plastic Apple Watch SE was not announced during Apple’s It’s Glowtime event on September 9, which showcased other new products, including the Series 10 and a new black color for the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

The current Apple Watch SE was last updated in 2022 with its second generation—The upcoming plastic version is expected to feature a more colorful design aimed at younger users. Despite the delay, Gurman’s sources suggest that the project is ongoing, and the release is projected for the next year.

At the recent event, Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 10, which highlights a thinner profile and a larger, brighter OLED display. Engadget’s Billy Steele praised the Series 10 for its significant display improvements over recent models, noting its enhanced brightness and wider viewing angles.

This release continues Apple’s trend of incremental upgrades to its smartwatch lineup while the plastic SE, unfortunately, still remains in development. Hopefully, those on a budget looking for a new smartwatch to jump in the Apple ecosystem will have some great news a couple of months from now. What are some colors you would like to see in Apple’s new series for the Watch SE? Hopefully they won’t have the same bad reception that the iPhone 5c series had—something many of us will never forget.

Misconfigured ServiceNow Knowledge Bases Expose Confidential Information

    0

Users of ServiceNow, a cloud-based platform used to manage IT services and processes, could be unknowingly exposing confidential information, including names, phone numbers, internal system details, and active credentials.

Misconfiguration of Knowledge Bases — self-service platforms within ServiceNow where users can create, store, and share information such as articles and guides — could lead to unauthorised individuals gaining access to the system. Many organisations use Knowledge Bases as repositories of sensitive internal information, such as how to reset company passwords, how to respond to a cyberattack, data related to HR processes, and more.

According to a new blog from SaaS security platform provider AppOmni, around 60% of exposures involve older versions of Knowledge Bases that are set up to allow public access by default. Others have “User Criteria” — rules that define specific conditions for users to access or contribute to Knowledge Bases — that are unintentionally granting access to unauthenticated users.

SEE: ServiceNow vs Jira Service Management

ServiceNow is used by 85% of Fortune 500, and over a thousand instances are currently set up incorrectly. Many organisations with multiple ServiceNow instances were found to have consistently misconfigured Knowledge Base access controls, indicating that the settings were either cloned across instances or a fundamental misunderstanding of how they work exists.

Aaron Costello, chief of SaaS security research at AppOmni, said, “This highlights the urgent need for enterprises to routinely check and update their security configurations to prevent unauthorised access and protect their data assets.

“Understanding these issues and how to mitigate them is essential for maintaining robust security in enterprise SaaS environments.”

This is not the first time ServiceNow has been found to have been exposing sensitive data due to user misconfigurations. In 2020, another researcher reported a similar finding where Knowledge Base articles were publicly accessible through a now-secure UI page.

Ben De Bont, chief information security officer at ServiceNow, said, “ServiceNow is committed to fostering collaboration with the security community. We are committed to protecting our customers’ data, and security researchers are important partners in our ongoing efforts to improve the security of our products.”

What are the Knowledge Base misconfigurations?

AppOmni discovered three circumstances whereby businesses were putting their ServiceNow Knowledge Bases at risk of compromise:

    1. If using an older version of ServiceNow where the default settings for Knowledge Base allow public access when User Criteria aren’t set up.
    2. If the “Any User” and “Any user for kb” User Criteria are used as allowlists. Both of these grant access to unauthenticated users, which administrators may not realise.
    3. If administrators do not configure denylists, allowing external users to bypass access controls.

How attackers can gain access to the Knowledge Bases

According to Costello’s proof of concept, attackers can gain access to misconfigured Knowledge Bases through Public Widgets, such as the “KB Article Page” widget, which displays content from a specific Knowledge Base article.

An attacker can automate requests to find and access articles through the widget using a tool called Burp Suite. This is easier with the KB Article Page widget, which uses a predictable format for article IDs of “KBXXXXXXX,” where X represents a positive integer.

Burp Suite’s Intruder feature can quickly iterate over these integers and identify articles that may be exposed unintentionally. It can then return the body text, which may contain the sensitive data of multiple unsecured articles at once.

How to secure Knowledge Bases against unauthorised access

Run regular diagnostics on Knowledge Base access controls

ServiceNow’s User Criteria diagnostics tool allows administrators to determine which users, both authenticated and unauthenticated, have the ability to access Knowledge Bases and individual articles.

Navigate to /get_public_knowledge_bases.do to identify public Knowledge Bases, and the full diagnostics tool at /km_diagnostics.do to identify the access level of public and non-public users to individual articles.

Use Business Rules to deny unauthenticated access to Knowledge Bases by default

Ensure the “sys_id 6c8ec5147711111016f35c207b5a9969” Business Rule — which adds the Guest User to the “Cannot Read and Cannot Contribute” User Criteria — is activated for Knowledge Bases.

      3. Proof of Date of Birth: Birth certificate, Aadhaar card, or passport to prove the age to apply for a PAN card.
