[4-2-3-1] Mazraoui, De Ligt, Ugarte & Zirkzee to start against Barnsley; Amad over Garnacho & Rashford to start? – MUFCLatest.com

0

Manchester United face their first test in the Carabao Cup this season as they welcome Barnsley to Old Trafford for the first time in about 26 years. United will be seeking to do much better in this tournament than they did last season – exiting at the fourth round stage.

Erik ten Hag saw his fortunes change after the international break as United defeated Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s on Saturday which ended the poor form of two defeats on the bounce in the Premier League. September is where the season opens up with other competitions commencing.

Barnsley have started the season well, sitting seventh in League One just three points from the top of the league. They will relish this clash at the Theatre of Dreams having not played at the historic stadium since early 1998. United will also welcome the challenge to Old Trafford.

Predicted Manchester United Starting XI – 4-2-3-1

Onana;

Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot;

Ugarte, Mainoo;

Amad, Fernandes, Rashford;

Zirkzee

Goalkeeper: Onana

Andre Onana got his second clean sheet of the season against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon and after that performance, he will be relishing the opportunity of facing Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening. United need another win.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper is an experienced player and his struggles last season were not all on him. The club are culpable, as are the player that played in front of him. It was a terrible season for United and they must build from it. With a settled defence, this could be a great squad for United.

Altay Bayindir is also seeking to get minutes on the pitch this season, and in the Carabao Cup, that offers him the best chance against lesser sides not up to the standards of the Premier League. However, Ten Hag has stuck by Onana and I think he will continue to do so this week.

Defenders: Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot

United’s defence has been significantly strengthened this summer with Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. With Yoro injured and the likelihood that both Mazraoui and de Ligt’s injuries are not serious, I believe the dog will start against Barnsley at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot played in the fullback roles against Southampton, with Dalot the weak link in the defence at times, especially when a penalty was given to Southampton, which was missed. The Portuguese fullback built on his mistakes though and United persevered.

In the centre of the defence, de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, providing he recovers in time, should be starting again as on paper it is United’s best central defensive partnership, which keeps United on top, providing they keep their heads and quell the Barnsley attack.

Midfield: Ugarte, Mainoo

United’s midfield should start finding its feet against Barnsley which will give less pressure than against a Premier League side, allowing United to find their feet with a new player at the club, who is expected to take Casemiro’s place, taking pressure off the Brazilian this season.

Manuel Ugarte made his debut for United against Southampton, which could earn him a start against Barnsley, being that he is much fresher than both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen prior to Tuesday’s clash at the Theatre of Dreams. The Uruguayan will capitalise on his position help strengthen.

Kobbie Mainoo is the mainstay in this United midfield and the teenager is expected to continue from strength to strength as his formulates his position at the club and takes aim at United’s competition. Mainoo and Ugarte should stabilise United’s midfield significantly this season and beyond.

Attacking Midfield: Amad, Fernandes, Rashford

United’s attacking line need to continue what they are doing. Against Southampton, they played a good game as the club started to hit back from the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford prior to the first international break of the season. Bruno Fernandes played a good game.

The skipper should keep his place against Barnsley, which will keep United going forward to the right strengths. Marcus Rashford should also keep him place in a big to build form his first goal of the season against Southampton with a vein to creating and scoring more this season and beyond.

Amad Diallo should also keep his place after what he has started doing on the wing for United. His speed and eye for a goal and assist is what will make him a star at United. It is great to see him get a chance after last season and earn his place in the team, which is even better to see.

Forward: Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee had a good game against Southampton and will be seeking to get his second goal of the season at some point in the not too distant future. The Dutchman looks very tactically aware and seems to do a lot of the hard work, underlining why he was brought to United in the summer.

Zirkzee had hard luck at United so far in the hunt for his second goal for the club and after what he showed against Southampton, it is only a matter of time before he finds his feet and starts scoring regularly for United. He was superb against the Saints and in that form he will be dangerous.

United have few options in the striker role at this time and it was great that Zirkzee was signed in the summer, or they would be forced with playing players out of position to make up for the lack of strikers. Rasmus Hojlund should be back soon, which takes away more pressure in this role.

Substitutes: Bayindir; Maguire, Evans; Eriksen, Casemiro, Collyer; Garnacho, Antony, Wheatley

Nine players will be on the bench for this first match in the Carabao Cup this season for United. It is expected that Altay Bayindir will once again be the substitute goalkeeper with Onana given the nod to start this match after the form he showed against Southampton on Saturday.

Defensively, United have few options with both left-backs out of action at this stage of the season. In which case, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans will be on the bench should changes be required at any point in the match. It is not ideal and puts strain on Mazraoui and Dalot but needs must.

In midfield, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Toby Collyer could find involvement on the bench at Old Trafford against Barnsley. The attack is another problem position with just Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Ethan Wheatley on the bench at this time because of injuries.

Amazon will host its Prime Big Deals Day sales event on October 8 and 9

0

Amazon said today that it will host its Prime Day-like sales event, “Prime Big Deals Day,” on October 8-9. For the last two years, the ecommerce company has scheduled its fall event in October and has continued that tradition this year.

Apart from the U.S., this event will take place in countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the U.K., and Turkey. Amazon will hold Big Deals Day in Japan later in October.

Prime Members will have a deal for them every five minutes during the event, the company said. It has also prepared a holiday gift guide along. Earlier this year, Amazon made its AI shopping assistant Rufus available to all U.S.-based users. And it will hope that more shoppers use it.

“Exclusive savings events like Prime Big Deal Days combined with unlimited fast, free delivery of 300+ million products across more than 35 categories year-round put Prime in a class of its own and make membership a better value than ever before,” Jamil Ghani, vice president of Prime Worldwide said in a statement.

According to analysts, Amazon’s Prime Day held in July was a successful endeavor for the company, with a record $14.2 billion in sales. Adobe noted that 49.3% of sales were initiated from a phone rather than other devices. The company noted that during the holiday season this year, mobile shopping will drive 53% of online sales.

Amazon’s ecommerce sales in the US are expected to total $491.65 billion in 2024 — up 10.5% from the last year, according to data from analytics firm Emarketer. The data also suggested that Amazon still remains the biggest ecommerce retailer in the country, with a 40.4% market share.

Title: Embracing Unreasonable Hospitality: A Lesson for Leaders and Christians

Introduction

In a world where efficiency and productivity often take precedence over human connection, the concept of “unreasonable hospitality” stands out as a reminder of the profound impact that genuine care and attention can have on individuals. During a recent episode of the Eyes on Jesus Podcast, hosts Drew and Tim delve into how we can adopt this concept of unreasonable hospitality—modeled by Jesus and exemplified in various leadership frameworks—to enrich our personal, professional, and spiritual lives.

Unpacking Unreasonable Hospitality

We begin by asking, “How can we embody this unreasonable hospitality, this unreasonable love?” Drew and Tim set the stage by reflecting on how Jesus modeled such behavior, often prioritizing individuals over the masses. Jesus welcomed sinners, sought out people like Zacchaeus, the woman at the well, and Lazarus, demonstrating a commitment to the one over the many.

“Hey, welcome to the Eyes on Jesus Podcast with Drew and Tim,” they introduce, underscoring the importance of continuously keeping our eyes on Jesus throughout our daily lives.

The Global Leadership Summit Experience

The conversation takes a fascinating turn when Tim recounts his experience attending a Global Leadership Summit. He emphasizes the value of leadership growth, regardless of one’s role in ministry or secular environments. “I’ve been going now for three years, four years… it helps you grow in your leadership,” he notes, underscoring how the summit’s Christ-focused content provides practical applications for all levels of leadership.

From noteworthy speakers like Craig Groeschel to Erwin McManus, the summit offers diverse perspectives that enrich attendees’ understanding of effective leadership. Drew highlights how hearing different points of view, from CEOs to individuals aiming to be better leaders at home, provides enriching experiences that can be applied across various fields.

Applying Unreasonable Hospitality in Ministry and Life

Tim connects these insights to the concept of unreasonable hospitality through the teachings of Will Gadara, author of “Unreasonable Hospitality.” Gadara’s experiences in transforming Eleven Madison Park from a top-50 restaurant to number one by focusing on exceptional hospitality serve as a powerful metaphor for how leaders and Christians can prioritize loving and valuing individuals.

Gadara’s approach boils down to transforming routine transactions into extraordinary experiences. One story that stands out involves a couple who, despite dining at a high-end restaurant, expressed regret over missing out on a New York street hot dog. Gadara’s team seized the opportunity to procure a hot dog, slice it elegantly, and serve it in the restaurant. This small act of tuning into the customer’s values created a memorable experience far outweighing the cost.

Biblical Foundations and Practical Applications

Tim and Drew emphasize the biblical foundations for such acts of love, noting that the Bible calls us to love genuinely and enthusiastically. Romans 12:9-12 extolls believers to love each other with genuine affection and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Similarly, 1 Peter 4:9-10 urges believers to show hospitality cheerfully and use their spiritual gifts to serve others.

Examples from their own ministries highlight how these principles translate into real-world scenarios. Tim shares how their church uses a plan-your-visit tool to welcome new attendees warmly, resulting in meaningful connections and spiritual growth. Drew recounts changing a flat tire for a church guest, illustrating how small acts of kindness can make a big impact.

Challenges and Boundaries in Practicing Unreasonable Hospitality

However, they also caution against blind adherence to hospitality without boundaries. Drawing from Gadara’s teachings, they stress that clear boundaries are essential to avoid burnout and ensure that both leaders and staff can maintain a healthy work environment.

“The customer isn’t always right, and it’s unhealthy for everyone if you don’t have clear and enforced boundaries,” emphasizes Tim. This is especially pertinent in church settings where not every congregant’s feedback should steer the direction of the ministry.

Focusing on Genuine Love

Ultimately, the message is clear: as followers of Christ, our goal should be to emulate Jesus’s unreasonable love. We should strive for focused hospitality, genuinely valuing each individual we encounter. Whether in a ministry setting or a secular job, embodying this principle can enrich our interactions and leave a lasting impact.

Conclusion

Unreasonable hospitality isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about genuine love and attention to the details that matter to individuals. By following Jesus’s example and integrating insights from leaders like Will Gadara, we can make our homes, workplaces, and churches places of extraordinary experiences.

Let us know how you are practicing unreasonable hospitality in your life. Share your stories and continue the conversation on how we can keep our eyes on Jesus while making a meaningful impact on those around us.

Old apartment building in Santa Monica transformed into all-electric affordable housing » Yale Climate Connections

0

On Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California, an old apartment building got a full makeover.

The affordable housing complex now has rooftop solar and new insulation, and it runs entirely on electricity, so residents do not use fossil fuels for heating or cooking.

Maggie Messerschmidt of Arup, a consulting firm, says this kind of retrofit reduces climate-warming carbon pollution.

And it can save people money on utility bills, improve indoor air quality, and reduce air leaks and drafts.

Messerschmidt: “Those thermal comfort benefits, those air quality benefits should be available to everyone …”

… regardless of income.

But affordable housing retrofits, like the one in Santa Monica, remain rare.

Messerschmidt says many building owners cannot cover the upfront cost or may see no incentive to invest if tenants are the ones saving money on utilities.

Messerschmidt: “And so that creates some of the issue of why decarbonization isn’t happening at the pace we want it to.”

Retrofits that do happen are usually funded by grants, which can be time-consuming to apply for. And projects may need multiple sources of financing.

So she says it will be important to come up with new ways of funding and incentivizing affordable housing retrofits – to help create healthy, efficient housing accessible to all.

Wondering how it all started? Living the life of a gluten free pioneer hasn’t always been easy.

I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1998, and at that point, gluten free recipes were incredibly hard to find.

Gluten Free Recipes

Another issue? So many gluten free recipes use unhealthy ingredients.

For example, the majority of gluten free breads and baked goods are made with high carb ingredients such as rice flour, potato starch, and corn meal.

The Apple Watch Series 10 Is Easier to Secretly Glance At

0

Apple is making the Apple Watch even better than before. The new Apple Watch Series 10 has been announced, and while it doesn’t necessarily redefine the Apple Watch experience as far as features go, it does refine the Apple Watch design in a few key, meaningful ways.

In fact, the design changes to the Apple Watch Series 10 could be the best thing about the new model. Sure, that might not be enough of a reason to upgrade from the Series 9, but if you’re in the market for a new smartwatch, you can expect the best-looking Apple Watch ever.

The changes to the device can be split into two buckets: build and display. Here’s a look.

Build and Bands

The overall shape of the watch is largely the same for the Series 10, but with a few meaningful changes. The most important of these relates to thickness. The Apple Watch Series 10 is the thinnest Apple Watch yet, making it look sleeker and more stylish while offering a more comfortable fit. It’s almost 10% thinner than the Series 9 before it, while retaining the same set of features and the same battery life. That’s a pretty impressive feat.

Close-up of the back of a black smartwatch showing its sensor array and curved design.

Along with the thinner build, the device is also available in an array of colors, including a sleek new jet black polished aluminum finish. There’s also silver aluminum or rose gold aluminum, or you can spend more for polished titanium, which comes in natural titanium, gold titanium, and slate titanium.

Hermès Grand H band

There are a ton of new Apple Watch bands on offer too, including some made by Hermès. Apple now offers Milanese Loop and Link Bracelet bands, color-matched to the titanium cases of the Series 10. Along with that, there’s a new Torsade cable knit band from Hermès, as well as a Twill Jump Attelage band that’s built to offer a silky feel. Last but not least is the Grand H Hermès band, which is Hermès’ first metal Apple Watch band, made of a series of interlocking links in satin-finished stainless steel.

Three Apple Watches display different screens. The left shows a message conversation, the middle shows an email, and the right displays a news headline article.

Display

Perhaps even more important than the thinner build is the new display technology on the device. There are basic improvements, like the fact that the display is now larger with thinner bezels around it, making for a more modern look. In fact, the display on the larger 46mm model is even bigger than the screen on the Apple Watch Ultra 2. That can be helpful for reading text, for example.

A smartwatch displaying a weather forecast for Monday, September 9, with temperatures ranging from 65°F to 72°F and mostly sunny conditions throughout the day.

Even more important than that, though, is the fact that this is the first Apple Watch with a wide-angle OLED display. This tech is designed to allow you to more easily see what’s on the screen when you’re not looking at the watch face-on. So, you can glance down at your watch subtly to check the time or see a notification without having to raise or move your wrist. The display is up to 40% brighter than the Series 9 when viewed at an angle, though we’ll have to wait and see how that translates to real-world use.

Other Stuff

There are other improvements to the Apple Watch Series 10 as well, unrelated to the design. For starters, the new device has some new health tracking features, including the ability to detect possible sleep apnea. That can be pretty helpful, considering the fact that a large percentage of sufferers of sleep apnea go undiagnosed, and the fact that sleep apnea can have a massive impact on overall sleep quality.

A smartphone screen displaying a notification about possible sleep apnea detected by an Apple Watch, suggesting to discuss with a doctor. The Apple Watch screen also shows the notification.

Other features include the ability to play music or podcasts through the built-in speakers, and faster charging, which allows the device to charge to 80% battery in around 30 minutes. That’s very helpful for those who use their device at night for sleep tracking, as it allows them to top up on battery before bed or when they wake up.

An Apple Watch with a black band displays the time 10:09 on a dark, minimalist digital face.

The Apple Watch Series 10 is now up for pre-order, with sales set to begin on September 20th. The device starts at $399 for the smaller 42mm model with an aluminum finish. Prices range up from there for the larger variant, a more expensive finish, or a cellular connection.
