Shortlisted Hotels for the 2024 GREAT Awards Announced

0

GuestRevu is excited to reveal the shortlisted properties for the 2024 GuestRevu GREAT Awards, celebrating the GREATest hotels and guesthouses from around the world. Following the analysis of over 70,000 online guest reviews of hotels from more than 55 countries worldwide, we’ve identified properties that consistently deliver excellence in service, guest experience and satisfaction.

This year, shortlisted entrants, sponsors and leading minds in the hospitality industry will celebrate and recognise the best in global hospitality at two splendid events. The first awards evening, at which the winners in the Europe and Americas & APAC categories will be announced, will be held on 6 November during WTM London at Tapa Tapa Wine Bar.

Due to the overwhelming global response to the call for entries, the organisers have expanded the awards programme this year to include a second awards evening to be held at the end of January in Cape Town to recognise top hotels in Africa.

Both events will feature panel discussions, talks, canapes, drinks and live music befitting of a celebration of the very GREATest in guest-rated excellence in accommodation and travel.

“These awards are unique in that they are solely determined by guest feedback, making the results truly reflective of exceptional service. Now that we are in our second year of the GREAT Awards we saw an amazing response from both past entries and new hoteliers who were looking to see how they measure up” says GuestRevu founder Chris Alexandre.

GREATest Food & Beverage Establishment

The shortlist for the GREAT Awards has been determined based on publically available online reviews of participating hotels from the three biggest online guest review sources: Google Reviews, Booking.com and Tripadvisor, which were collected and consolidated using GuestRevu LITE, the free version of GuestRevu’s award-winning reputation management software for hotels. This ensures fairness, transparency, and impartial results, and makes the awards an authentic reflection of the quality of service and guest experiences at each nominated venue.

To ensure objectivity, fairness, and transparency, the Hotel Management School of Stenden South Africa oversaw the data collection and review for the GREAT Awards. Dr Wouter Hensens, Executive Dean of Stenden South Africa, was instrumental in ensuring that appropriate academic rigour was applied to the analysis of the data. As co-author ofThe Good, The Bad, and The Emoji Mastering the Art of Review Data, Dr Hensens is uniquely positioned to understand the data illuminated in the thousands of reviews collected during the GREAT Awards.

“Over the last decade, online guest reviews have had an increasing impact on the global hospitality industry,” asserts Dr Hensens. “They have made it easier for consumers to access information about hospitality businesses, and this increased transparency has empowered consumers to make more informed decisions based on feedback from other guests.”

With regards to the process, Dr Hensens was tasked to ensure that the data collection and interpretation were fair and consistent: “We have paid particular attention to the number of reviews and the weighting of reviews as they were sourced from different platforms. Having reviewed the data I believe that these awards directly reflect the appreciation of the guests that have stayed in these properties and thus their authentic voice.”

“Based on our extensive experience analysing guest reviews, we’ve come to understand industry benchmarks,” says Chris Alexandre, GuestRevu’s founder and CEO. “However, this year’s GREAT Awards contestants have surpassed expectations. Following on from last year’s fantastic results this year’s competitors seem to have pulled out all of the stops. Their exceptional review scores are a testament to their dedication and commitment to delivering outstanding guest experiences.”

Representatives from the shortlisted hotels are invited to attend the glamorous GuestRevu GREAT Awards evening at Tapa Tapal in London on 6 November 2024. Thanks to sponsorship by industry-leading hospitality technology providers Hop and industry body HOSPA, the awards ceremony promises to be a spectacular and unforgettable occasion. It is a night for the hotel industry to come together, celebrate their successes, and honour the outstanding efforts of hoteliers who have earned the trust and loyalty of their guests.

Another Eredivisie product on Man United’s radar: AZ Alkmaar’s high-flying left-back David Moller Wolfe being eyed – Man United News And Transfer News

0

Manchester United have started yet another season without a specialist left-back at Erik ten Hag’s disposal with the Dutchman forced to play right-back Diogo Dalot in that position.

Luke Shaw suffered a pre-season injury which has kept him out till now while Tyrell Malacia has been sidelined since the summer of 2023.

The Red Devils were linked with plenty of left-sided full-backs in the summer but in the end, they ended up securing ther signing of Noussair Mazraoui, a right-back by trade instead.

Malacia is inching closer to a comeback but with Mazraoui’s health condition, Ten Hag is under pressure to find a solution and fast.

LB needed at United

United could dive into the market in January to address the lack of a fit left-back with plenty of outlets linking the Red Devils with a move for Ben Chilwell of Chelsea.

The club is also reportedly considering buying back former academy star Alvaro Fernandez and now, Teamtalk have added a brand new name into the mix.

AZ Alkmaar left-back David Moller Wolfe is attracting plenty of interest from all across Europe with United and Chelsea among his admirers.

The 22-year-old has cemented his status as a guaranteed starter for both club and country with the Norway international raking up 10 appearances this season while notching two assists.

He was previously at Norwegian outfit SK Brann where he even played higher up the pitch at times. His current market value is 4.5 million as per Transfermarkt.

With a contract until 2028, Alkmaar are expected to ask for a lot more, especially if United and Chelsea are serious about the defender.

United, Chelsea eyeing Wolfe

“Manchester United and Chelsea are among a number of Premier League clubs that are tracking Norway and AZ Alkmaar left-back David Moller Wolfe, TEAMtalk can reveal.

“Wolfe has impressed for club and country in the last 18 months and his performances have brought him onto the radar of a host of top clubs across Europe’s biggest five leagues.”

Just like the 20-time English league champions, the Blues are also looking to strengthen in that position with Chilwell expected to depart soon.

Ten Hag’s penchant for Eredivisie stars is well known and as long as he is at the club, a concrete move cannot be ruled out for Wolfe.

Hi friends! How are you? How was the weekend? Ours was a great one. We went to the pumpkin patch with friends, enjoyed dinner with the fam, saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoatand I got some prep work done for an upcoming trip to Orlando. I’d love to hear what you were up to!

A small thing that has been bringing me joy lately: changing up my skincare routine. I started using Oliveda products at the beginning of the year (when I could tell that things with Beautycounter were heading south, I knew I’d need a replacement) and I’ve been blown away by the quality, ingredients, and results.

I LOVED the Beautycounter products and was happy for many years. At the same time, I feel like this is a step up from Beautycounter. The products feel even more luxe with a similar dedication to quality ingredients, and I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin since I started using the products.

The lighting is different, but check out how much my WTF lines have changed!

For today’s post, I wanted to share some of my latest faves:

(since the products are so popular, they’re sometimes sold out. The company has grown exponentially and they’re drastically increasing inventory this year. If you’d like me to notify you when something is back in stock, leave a comment below, or I’m happy to share similar recs if something you want is OOS.)

Oliveda Skincare Faves

F76 Honey Enzyme Face Mask

This enzymatic peeling mask frees the skin from dead skin cells, refines the pores and leaves the complexion radiant and even. Honey moisturizes the skin and has a soothing effect. Papain, an enzyme derived from papaya, activates the natural regenerative power, the topmost skin cells are removed and the skin is vitalized. The luxurious Arbequina oil provides a velvety soft skin feeling.

How to use it:

Apply to clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. Allow to set for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water. Follow with moisturizer. I do this 1-2x a week.

Why I love it:

I loooove the texture of this mask. It’s like honey, but not sticky. It goes on smoothly and feels extremely gentle and nourishing. My skin always feels super soft after using this mask.

F83 HT + Vitamin C Face Serum

In line with our philosophy “From Tree to Beauty”, OLIVEDA combines organic and bioactive vitamin C with autochthonous hydroxytyrosol in HT + Vitamin C Facial Serum, which further increases the antioxidant benefits of natural vitamin C by over 1300%. The water-free formulation and absence of any fillers creates a highly effective facial treatment that is also suitable for the décolleté and back of the hands. It improves the appearance of skin tone and firmness as well as pigmentation, spots, skin imperfections and counteracts the signs of aging. Based on the bioactive Beauty Elixir, which is autochthonous and exclusive to OLIVEDA’s own and eco-certified bergolive trees, it creates a phytosynergy that makes any complexion glow.

How to use it:

Shake before use and apply a few drops to your face, avoiding the eye area. Use this before your daytime and/or evening moisturizer. (I only use this one in the morning.)

Why I love it:

It actually feels like a vitamin for my skin – my skin drinks this up! I put a few drops on and moisturize and it’s instantly absorbed. I like that it doesn’t have a scent and I think it’s made a difference with dark spots. I’m going to start using it on my hands, too!

F59 Corrective Face Serum aka Botox in a Bottle

(check out my full review of Oliveda F59 here!)

This highly effective face serum with hydroxytyrosol and para cress has a lifting effect on the skin as well as it reduces the appearance of enlarged pores. Strong olive tree antioxidants have balancing and regenerating properties to smooth the skin structure. Fine lines and wrinkles as well as high pigmentation can be reduced if applied regularly. This unique face serum is quickly absorbed to create sculpted contours and a healthy and glowing complexion – in just seconds! Signs of premature aging can’t only be prevented but minimized.

How to use it:

Apply a few drops to your face and massage into your skin, morning and/or evening. (I use this one in the evening.) Follow with moisturizer.

Why I love it:

This is the holy grail Oliveda product and what gets everyone hooked. If you’ve been wanting to try a product, I recommend starting with this one! I love using this before moisturizer and I think it’s made an enormous difference in my skin’s glow – it doesn’t feel so dull anymore – and texture.

F10 Olive Core Face Peeling

This fine facial scrub is based on our highly effective, fresh olive leaf cell elixir. The cell sap contains both olive polyphenols and hydroxytyrosol oleuropein to supply the skin with highly concentrated antioxidants. The finely ground olive stone granules, from the small black Arbequina olive, gently removes dead skin and creates a fresh, smooth skin look- without drying out or causing irritation. Suitable for all skin types, including individuals with extremely sensitive, irritated, and/or stressed skin.

How to use it:

Massage this onto damp, clean skin, in circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with serum and moisturizer. I use this 1-2x a week.

Why I love it:

This is my all-time favorite gentle exfoliator. It makes my skin feel so soft and clean and is grainy without being too harsh.

Shop it up here.

F42 Corrective Face Cream

This rich face cream is based on the highly regenerative hydroxytyrosol and polyphenol of the olive tree, produced from the black, sun-ripened Arbequina olive. Due to their strong antioxidant and regenerating properties, their active powers smooth the surface of uneven skin; evening the appearance of small lines and wrinkles and supplying the skin with a maximum amount of moisture. The complexion appears visibly more elastic and the skin radiates a more youthfully, fresh, and smooth shine. The cream also contains a sun protection factor.

How to use it:

Use after serum, in the morning and/or evening. (I use this one at night.) You can also massage this into your neck and hands.

Why I love it:

This cream is luxe and extremely hydrating. It reminds me of Supreme Cream but is less oily. I love to drench my skin in moisturizer before I go to bed, and this is my current #1.

Shop it up here

F60 Corrective Eye Cream

This nourishing eye cream has powerful and functional ingredients. It contains hydroxytyrosol, a regenerating antioxidant found in olive trees, and para cress, which help strengthen the collagen structure. Together, they can work to reduce fine lines, decrease the appearance of dark circles, and brighten discoloration.

This luxe cream can prevent early signs of aging, leaving the delicate skin around your eyes looking refreshed, radiant, and more youthful.

How to use it:

Just pat into the lower eye area (not on the upper lid).

Why I love it:

I love that this is thick but doesn’t feel greasy. The hydroxytyrosol and para cress combo works well on my skin – it definitely feels smoother under my eyes.

Failed Flat Closure Mastectomy | Elana’s Pantry

0

Photography by Joe Friend and Caroline Miller.

Just over two and a half years ago, in February 2022, I had a double mastectomy because I had stage 1 breast cancer.

I was diagnosed with the BRCA genetic mutation more than a decade prior to that.

Flat Closure Mastectomy

For those just joining the conversation now, I chose to go flat, forgoing prosthetic breast implants, for my double mastectomy chest wall closure.

Mastectomy Update

Sadly, I’ve sustained injuries from the flat closure mastectomy surgery.

To address this, I am doing daily home PT.

Get My Keto Recipes eBook

Free exclusive eBook, plus recipes and health tips, delivered to your inbox.

Outside of my home I have seen a variety of skilled professionals for rehabilitation. My treatment ranges from oncology PT to fascial trains work, cupping, and more.

Painful Scarring

I am in treatment for two types of pain. The first, a constant and severe burning, itchy feeling in the mastectomy scars, which are keloid.

Keloid Scars

A keloid scar is similar to the scar from a severe burn. The damaged tissue is no longer supple. It is tough and immobile. Inflamed, the scar grows thick and rubbery.

After my surgery, I first heard of the term, “scar maker,” the idea that it is due to the patient’s own biology that their incisions do not heal properly.

This conveniently places the blame on the patient.

Incisions Under Stress

But when I looked into the medical literature, I found that keloid scar formation risks include “local factors” such as increased “tension on the wound,”1 i.e., when the surgeon sews the mastectomy incision too tightly.

This puts the skin under stress, creating an inflammatory process instead of allowing healthy new skin to form2.

I have had a number of surgeries prior to the mastectomy. I had lumpectomy surgery, a lymph node dissection, as well as surgeries on other parts of my body.

Surgical Wound Healing

In each of my prior surgeries, my wounds healed well. I haven’t scarred this way before.

My primary care doctor examined my mastectomy scarring and shared his opinion that I am not a “scar maker” but that it looked to him that the scar pain stemmed from poor stitching done with too much tension.

The scorching pain is a constant physical reminder of my loss.

Chest Wall Pain

The second type of pain is on the right side of my chest.

The surgery on this side was prophylactic, i.e., there was no cancer in that breast, but I wonder, was chest wall muscle removed?

Quarter Pounder?

It’s hard not to wonder about it when you peer down at your chest, and it looks and feels like the equivalent of a “quarter-pounder” meat patty is missing.

Pectoral Muscle Removal?

I’m not a doctor, but I wonder if muscle may have been removed because I can’t move my arm the way I used to, and my hand is cold and sometimes numb.

You can see in the photo above that this side is indented compared to the left side, the side that had cancer.

Physical Therapist Told Me…

My PT, whom I’ve worked with for several years and knows my body well, said it appeared to her that something damaging had been done to the right side.

Something’s Missing

More than once, when we met in the months right after my mastectomy surgery, she laid her hand on the right side of my chest and said, “something’s missing” in a serious tone.

A consulting surgeon who examined me also shared her view that the right side of my chest wall was carved out and that what remained of it was sewn up into my armpit.

Pathology Report Stated

And, my pathology report stated that the tissue that was removed contained skeletal muscle.

Mastectomy Recovery

Even more distressing is that I was told the mastectomy recovery would be 6 weeks. It has now been over 130 weeks since my breasts were removed.

Constant Pain

What this means is that well over two years after the flat closure mastectomy surgery, I suffer from constant chest wall pain, along with the aforementioned burning scar pain.

Not What I Expected

Another challenge is that the mastectomy results were not what I expected.

Prior to surgery, I requested and was told I could have a flat closure mastectomy 3. This procedure consists of three elements in the reconfiguration of the chest wall so that the desired result is:

Lopsided and Painful

But when I ripped off the bandages, an unexpected result, a lopsided chest looked back at me. This was a surprise.

Pay Attention to Details Prior to Surgery

Did you know it is possible that your surgeon may not always correctly identify which side your cancer is on? I did not realize this.

Surprises in Your Medical Records

I was disappointed after surgery when I reviewed my own records to find that the location of the cancer was repeatedly misidentified in those records.

The records also described details of the surgery that I didn’t understand would take place.

Take Day Of Surgery Seriously

Don’t waste time right before surgery when you are about to go under anesthesia.

Don’t joke around with your surgical team.

Review the Details With Your Surgeon

Rigorously review the details with the surgeon right then and there, i.e., discussing where the cancer is and exactly what the procedure will consist of.

I wish I had done this, and still have not forgiven myself for not engaging this way.

Who Will Perform Your Surgery?

Also be diligent when it comes to who will perform your surgery. Will it be a well trained, senior surgeon or residents (doctors in training4)?

I would recommend that you watch the signing of this document by the surgeon so that you have a final opportunity to review it with him or her, and understand what will be done and who will do it during your procedure.

Surgery at Teaching Hospitals

I was disappointed to find that a junior doctor, who was still in a fellowship training, and three residents, even more junior than that person, were involved in my procedure.

My husband (who was at every appointment with me) and I, don’t recall anyone discussing with us how many people would be involved in my surgery.

It turned out there were six doctors present at my mastectomy surgery.

Be certain you know exactly who will be performing which parts of your surgery.

Too Many Cooks In the Kitchen?

Ask if there will be residents or fellows, and what exactly they will do –and don’t hesitate to insist that your surgeon not delegate these tasks!

From my perspective, surgery can be like cooking –it may not be beneficial to have too many cooks in the kitchen.

Your Right to Know

It is your right to know who will be inside your body with a knife and what exactly will be done.

Who Will Be Inside You?

As part of this, be especially vigilant about who will do what during surgery at teaching hospitals.

According to the NIH, the definition of informed consent, is when a patient is made aware of the alternatives, benefits, and risks of a procedure.

It’s important that you get your consent forms well in advance of surgery and review them.

If you wish to, you should mark them up as with any legal document.

Breast Cancer Treatment System Incompetence

After my double mastectomy I spoke with numerous other women who went through flat closure mastectomies and did much of my own medical research.

I am frustrated by the many stories I heard about the incompetence of the breast cancer treatment system.

UCLA Study On Flat Closure

According to a UCLA study5, one in five women who go flat are denied the outcome they select pre-operatively, the one that is agreed upon with the surgeon prior to their procedure.

Breast Cancer Diagnosis

I was devastated when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Then, I was terrified to have my breasts removed in a double mastectomy surgery.

My trauma was deeply compounded by my surgical result and my continuing pain more than two years after the surgery.

Medical Gaslighting

By denying our choices and our pain, the medical system attempts to silence us. We will not be silenced.

Language and Action

In The Cancer Journals, philosopher Audre Lorde says;

The transformation of silence into language and action is an act of self-revelation.

Audre Lorde’s statement above is a call to action, highlighting the need for change.

Normalizing Flat Closure

I am committed to normalizing the flat closure mastectomy procedure and making it an acceptable and easily achievable option for everyone who chooses it.

My Flat Closure Photos

And so I have shared these photos here with you of my flat chest; I wish it was not painful and lopsided, but for me, it’s still a better mastectomy closure choice than implants.

I also want to acknowledge the economic and heteronormative biases against flat closure.

I call attention to these cultural barriers to entry, as a means of increasing awareness and, ultimately, access to this safer and simpler breast cancer surgical closure.

Seeing Is Believing

My intention is that sharing these photos with you will weave our wishes for flat closure into the fabric of our reality. Because seeing is believing.

Flat Closure Mastectomy Pioneers

I am thankful to those with breast cancer who opted out of implants, choosing aesthetic flat closure mastectomy before me.

I feel great sorrow for your losses, and tremendous gratitude for your support, kindness, empathy, and friendship.

Thank you to these pioneers:

And I want to thank the other friends I have made who have shared with me the details of their own botched flat closure mastectomies.

Failed Flat Closure Mastectomy

I have sorrow for people who were taken apart during their mastectomies in ways that surprised them.

I hope the system can become more humane and transparent, delivering better results very soon for those who come after us.

Breast Implant Industrial Complex

When you try to get what you want, flat closure, and have a disappointing result it can feel like you failed in navigating the complexity of what I have termed the breast implant industrial complex.

Mastectomy Trauma: After Thoughts

Because my mastectomy involved having my boundaries emotionally and physically crossed so many times, it was important to me not to cross my own children’s boundaries in sharing these photos.

I had my boundaries violated repeatedly as a child, not by my parents, but other authority figures, so protecting my boys is critical to me.

I spoke with each of my sons and obtained their agreement to share the images here.

During this process, I offered to shelve the images and this project for a couple of years if either of my sons needed that time to get comfortable with the subject matter.

The Deeper Roots of Trauma

Trauma in families can be readily passed down from generation to generation, and it is our undeniable responsibility as parents to go out of our way to make sure that we do not burden our own offspring with our trauma.

I am blessed to have open lines of communication with my boys as we continue the ongoing processes of connection and individuation while I digest the trauma and medical surprises that were part of my flat closure mastectomy.

Is This Mortgage Rate Scare Going to Get Home Buyers Off the Fence?

0

It’s not quite Halloween just yet, but home buyers may have already gotten a good scare.

The 30-year fixed mortgage, for which most buyers rely upon, jumped from around 6% to nearly 6.75% in the span of about three weeks.

And this took place right after the Fed finally pivoted and cut its own fed funds rate. Good timing I know.

Prior to this rate reversal, mortgage rates had steadily fallen all the way from 8%, their present cycle high that ironically took place just before last Halloween.

Talk about a good year for rates, moving down two full percentage points. But the trend is no longer our friend, at least in the interim.

Now I’d like to make a case for why this actually might be good for the housing market.

Higher Mortgage Rates Might Motivate More Than Lower Rates

I know what you’re thinking, higher mortgage rates can’t possibly be good for the struggling housing market.

Especially this housing market, which is presently one of the most unaffordable in recent history.

But bear with me here. I got to thinking recently how the low mortgage rates didn’t seem to get prospective home buyers off the fence.

As noted, rates came down quite a bit from their cycle highs, falling about two percentage points.

In Mid-September, you could get a 30-year fixed for around 6% for the average loan scenario. And in reality, much lower if you had a vanilla loan (high FICO, 20% down, etc.) and/or went with a discount lender.

The same was true if you paid discount points at closing. I was even stumbling upon rates in the high 4% range at that time.

Surely that would be good enough to get prospective buyers to bite. But the mortgage application data just didn’t respond.

You can blame seasonality, given it being a suboptimal time for rates to hit their lowest levels since early 2023.

But if you look at the seasonally adjusted home purchase application index from the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), you’ll see it barely budged. See the chart above from Trading Economics.

Meanwhile, refinance applications surged, granted they are much more rate-sensitive. Still, given the best rates in years, home buyers just didn’t show up.

And this was surprising because there had been a narrative that they’d flock to the housing market the second rates dropped.

In fact, there were some who argued to buy a home early to beat the rush. That too seemed to be little more than a misguided dream. And it might all have to do with motivation.

Maybe Home Buyers Wanted Even Lower Mortgage Rates

With the power of hindsight, perhaps the culprit was the idea that falling mortgage rates simply make home buyers thirsty for better.

It’s a weird psychological thing. Once you get a little of something good, you want even more. And once you get more, it doesn’t seem as good as it once was. You need even more.

Simply put, falling mortgage rates seemed to prove less motivational than rising rates, as strange as that sounds.

When rates are going up, there’s an intense urgency to lock in a rate before they get even worse.

When rates are falling, you might bide your time and wait for even better. That appears to be exactly what prospective buyers did.

Despite previously being told to beat the rush, they were now being told to wait. So not only did lower rates not get buyers off the fence, they almost entrenched them further.

Of course, I’ve argued recently that it’s no longer about the mortgage rates, and could in fact be other things.

It might be uncertainty regarding the economy, it could be home buyer burnout, it could simply be that home prices are too high. Yes, that’s a possibility too!

However, and here’s the even stranger thing, now that buyers have been spooked with higher rates, that could actually get them to jump off the fence!

Analysts Turn Bullish As ‘Something Big Is Coming’, Here’s What

0

Este artículo también está disponible en español.

Crypto analysts Amonyx and Egrag Crypto have provided a bullish outlook for the XRP price with “something big” on the horizon. Based on their analysis, the long-awaited price breakout for XRP could soon happen.

Something Big Is Coming For XRP Price

Crypto analyst Amonyx stated in an X post that something big is coming for the XRP price. His accompanying chart showed that the crypto could enjoy a massive rally to $75. The analyst made this prediction based on XRP replicating a similar run that it enjoyed in the 2017 bull run when its price surged by over 61,000%

The chart showed that XRP consolidated for a year before it broke out and enjoyed that unprecedented rally. In line with this, the analyst highlighted how XRP has been consolidating since then, suggesting another price breakout is imminent.

Amonyx has recently been more bullish on the XRP price. Before now, he predicted that the crypto would reach between $50 and $57 at the peak of this bull run. However, his recent prediction offers a more bullish outlook for XRP. Interestingly, he also recently predicted that the crypto could enjoy a “giga pump” to $400.

These bullish XRP predictions are believed to be partly because of the recent applications by Bitwise and Canary Capital to offer an XRP ETF. These funds could contribute to a significant rally for XRP since they will attract more institutional investors into the coin’s ecosystem. Therefore, these XRP ETFs will positively impact the XRP price just like the Spot Bitcoin ETFs did for the Bitcoin price.

Meanwhile, in the short term, Amonyx also expects that the XRP price could enjoy a significant rally. In a recent X post, he shared an XRP/Bitcoin chart and told XRP holders that a God candle was coming soon.

XRP’s Breakout Target To Keep An Eye On

Crypto analyst Egrag Crypto highlighted $0.61 and $0.62 as the breakout targets to keep an eye on. He noted that the breakout point is getting lower and added that the XRP has a maximum of 70 days left before it reaches the final pinnacle of the breakout point.

Egrag Crypto further remarked that he is convinced that the price breakout could happen sooner than expected, within the next 15 to 30 days. According to him, the pressure is building and won’t stay contained for much longer. Indeed, XRP’s consolidation dates way back to the 2021 bull run when it failed to reach a new all-time high (ATH).

The $0.60 price level has also proven to be strong resistance for the coin, as it has retested and failed to break above it multiple times since Judge Analisa Torres delivered her final judgment in the Ripple SEC lawsuit in August.

At the time of writing, the XRP price is trading at around $0.55, up over 3% in the last 24 hours, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

Designing Your Living Room With Mid-Century Furniture Pieces COCOCOZY

0

The mid-century design style is commonly executed today. There are many ways to create a mid-century-styled home. But what exactly is “mid-century”? This term is used to describe a style that emerged in the mid-1970s. The style was inspired by the functional and minimalist designs of many architects and designers in that era.

Some mid-century-esque furniture pieces are easier to spot than others. While styling your living room, we first have to discern what makes a piece of furniture “mid-century” versus just “modern” and what is that middle ground area.

Mid-century modern design characteristics

According to Vogue, five characteristics sum up the mid-century design style, specifically, the mid-century modern style.

  • Functionality: emphasizing practicality before style
  • Mass production: pieces that could be made democratically without diminishing craftsmanship
  • Connection with nature: designs that prioritize indoor-outdoor living or that simply reference natural elements
  • Rich colors: deep hues used in a playful way — usually as an accent juxtaposed against more neutral tones — to communicate an idea
  • Innovative materials: manmade materials like glass, plastic, and Formica juxtaposed against natural materials like warm woods, stone, and linoleum — always a mix of the two

Mid-Century Style Living Room Inspo

photo: @midcenturyhome @jeanbai

This small living room area is a great reflection of what mid-century is. The rich blue color of the velvet sofa is an eye-catcher. It stands out much more when placed against a lighter, neutral-colored wall, such as the white and wooden wall we see here. The wooden wall also matches the little side table at the end of the sofa as well is the tray on top of the small coffee table.

photo: @stadtwaldfluss

Here is a more modern take on the style. The uniquely shaped glass coffee table leans towards the modern design style. However, the curved chairs balance the modernity by bringing in some of that vintage style. The bright colors of the decor and wall art bring the mid-century style back out.

photo: @matthewsfanco

Here is another more modern take. There are a lot of neutral colors in this room but the style of the furniture pieces and decor keep the room on theme and still stand out. The vibrancy of the orange sofa helps bring this living room space back to life. The pop of color here is what this interior design style is all about. Mid-century pieces of furniture and style are usually brighter, or more vibrant. They help bring some dimension into a, what would’ve been flat, space.

photo: @brnbravo | design: @sandrabenhamou

You could also go a bit more contemporary and artsy with styling a mid-century living room. Take this living room for example. Every piece of furniture here looks like a piece of art. However, the artistic choices of these pieces also don’t take away from any functionality they have.

photo: @plastolux

Here is another look at a mid-century modern living room. The designs and style of this living room definitely lean more modern, but it still has some mid-century touches to it. The chairs and coffee table are a mix of both styles. The bright orange rug leans more mid-century and that helps brighten the space up. And, with big windows like this home, it looks super beautiful during golden hour.

There are many ways to pull off the mid-century modern style. This living room has some more contemporary pieces to it that help balance out each style. The neutrality of the whole space also plays a part in doing so. The white furniture pieces can also help bring out the “modern-ness”. However, sometimes the design of the piece makes it so it becomes both modern and mid-century-esque.

X updates its privacy policy to allow third parties to train AI models with its data

0

X is updating its privacy policy with new language that allows it to provide users’ data to third-party “collaborators” in order to train AI models. The , which takes effect November 15, 2024, would seem to open the door to Reddit-like arrangements in which outside companies can pay to license data from X.

The updated policy shared by X includes a new section titled “third-party collaborators.”

Depending on your settings, or if you decide to share your data, we may share or disclose your information with third parties. If you do not opt out, in some instances the recipients of the information may use it for their own independent purposes in addition to those stated in X’s Privacy Policy, including, for example, to train their artificial intelligence models, whether generative or otherwise.

While the policy mentions the ability to opt out, it’s not clear how users would actually do so. As TechCrunch , the policy points to users’ settings menu, but there’ doesn’t appear to be an control for opting out of data sharing. The policy doesn’t go into effect until next month, though, so there’s still a chance that could change. X didn’t respond to a request for comment.

If X were to begin licensing its data to other companies, it could open up a significant new revenue stream for the social media company, which has seen from major advertisers.

In addition to the privacy policy, X is also updating its with stricter penalties for entities that are caught “scraping” large numbers of tweets. In a section titled “liquidated damages” the company states anyone viewing or accessing more than a million posts a day will be subject to a penalty of $15,000.

Protecting our users’ data and our system resources is important to us. You further agree that, to the extent permitted by applicable law, if you violate the Terms, or you induce or facilitate others to do so, in addition to all other legal remedies available to us, you will be jointly and severally liable to us for liquidated damages as follows for requesting, viewing, or accessing more than 1,000,000 posts (including reply posts, video posts, image posts, and any other posts) in any 24-hour period – $15,000 USD per 1,000,000 posts.

X owner Elon Musk has previously railed against “scraping.” Last year, the company temporarily blocked people from viewing tweets while logged out, in a move Musk to fending off scrapers. He also moved X’s API behind , which has drastically hindered researchers’ ability to study what’s happening on the platform. He’s also used allegations of “scraping” to justify against organizations that have attempted to study hate speech and other issues on the platform.

Your eCommerce product performance reports are probably misleading you | by Hattie Biddlecombe | Oct, 2024

Why single metrics in isolation fall short and how Weighted Composite Scoring can transform your business insights

Towards Data Science
A stickman stands at the top of a tall ladder, peering over a wall. Another stickman with a shorter ladder can’t see over the wall. Beyond the wall are answers to a business’s true product value. The rungs of the ladders represent different metrics, allowing the taller ladder to provide more visibility with additional metrics.

In the world of e-commerce, relying on individual metrics to assess product and brand performance can be misleading. Metrics, in isolation, can create a false sense of success, leading to overinvestment in products that appear profitable but are actually draining your business’s resources or, conversely, undervaluing items with untapped potential.

To stay ahead, you need a holistic view — one that evaluates product and brand performance across several key metrics like ‘gross revenue’, ‘conversion rate’, ‘gross margin’, ‘customer acquisition cost’, ‘repeat purchase rate’, ‘fulfillment costs’ and ‘return rate’.

Below is a typical example of some eCommerce data that many of my clients work with. To protect client confidentiality and ensure privacy, the data shown here is synthetic, generated using AI. Although it includes a variety of important metrics, teams often only focus on the metric most relevant to their goals which can obscure the bigger picture. For instance, sorting by sales_gross_amount makes ‘Towel 17’ appear to be the top performer:

Table 1: eCommerce products sorted by gross sales amount

However, when we sort by a custom score that considers all the metrics equally, we find that ‘Cushion 152’ emerges as the best-performing product, while ‘Towel 17’ drops significantly to position 213 out of 500 products:

Table 2: eCommerce products sorted by weighted composite score

Side note: In practice, I probably wouldn’t use this many metrics simultaneously, as it can overcomplicate decision-making. However, I wanted to give you a complete picture of the different factors you could consider. Also, you may have noticed that I haven’t included Add to Basket as one of the metrics in the table. While it’s a useful early-stage indicator of customer interest, it doesn’t always translate into final sales or long-term product performance. However, some may still find value in tracking this metric.

To avoid these pitfalls of single metric assessment and to gain a more accurate evaluation of product and brand performance across multiple metrics, we use a method called Weighted Composite Scoring.

A Weighted Composite Score combines multiple metrics into a single, insightful metric that provides a comprehensive view of each product’s value across various dimensions. Think of it like your final grade in school — each subject may be assessed on a different scale, but ultimately they are combined into one overall score.

This composite score can also be weighted to emphasise specific metrics, allowing you to align with particular business goals such as prioritising profitability over growth or reducing return rates.

Next, let’s explore how to implement a Weighted Composite Score using Python:

import pandas as pd
from sklearn.preprocessing import StandardScaler, MinMaxScaler

product_df= pd.read_csv('product_data.csv') # This is a set of artificially generated data
product_df.head()

Table 3: eCommerce product data CSV

There are many scaling techniques you can apply, but for this dataset, Z-Score Normalisation is the most effective scaling method. Here’s why:

  • Balances different scales: Z-Score Normalisation converts each metric to have a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. This levels the playing field for metrics that vary significantly in scale — whether it’s thousands in revenue or single-digit conversion rates. Ultimately, this makes it easy to compare products across different dimensions.
  • Handles outliers better: Unlike Min-Max scaling, which can be distorted by extreme values, Z-scores reduce the influence of outliers, ensuring fairer representation of all metrics.
  • Identifies above / below average performance: Z-scores allow us to see whether a value is above or below the mean, using positive or negative values (as you can see in Table 4 below). As we’ll see, this insight will be useful later on for understanding how individual products perform relative to the mean.

Refining with Min-Max Scaling

While Min-Max scaling alone wouldn’t have been suitable for scaling the raw data in this dataset, we applied it after Z-Score Normalisation to transform all the values into a consistent range between -1 and 1. By doing this, it becomes easier to fairly compare metrics as all values are now on the same scale, ensuring that each metric contributes equally to the final analysis.

The code below demonstrates how to apply the scaling methods to our dataframe:

# Select numeric columns and create corresponding scaled column names
numeric_cols = product_df.select_dtypes(include=['float64', 'int64']).columns
scaled_cols = ['scaled_' + col for col in numeric_cols]

# Apply Z-Score Normalisation and then Min-Max scaling in one go
scaler = MinMaxScaler(feature_range=(-1, 1))
product_df[scaled_cols] = scaler.fit_transform(StandardScaler().fit_transform(product_df[numeric_cols]))

product_df.head()

Table 4: Product dataframe showing scaled metrics

Next, we want to provide the option for our end users to add weights to certain metrics. This allows the user to give greater importance to certain metrics based on business priorities or objectives. Different departments may prioritise different metrics depending on their focus. For example, the Marketing team might be more interested in customer acquisition and conversion, where conversion rate, customer acquisition cost (CAC), and repeat purchase rate are key indicators of success.

Metrics like fulfillment costs, CAC, and return rate represent negative factors for a product’s performance. By applying negative weights, we ensure that higher values in these metrics lower the overall composite score, reflecting their adverse impact:

# Example user-provided weights (this can be dynamic based on user input)
user_weights = {
'scaled_conversion_rate': 0.14,
'scaled_sales_gross_amount': 0.14,
'scaled_gross_margin': 0.14,
'scaled_customer_acquisition_cost': -0.14, #notice negative weight here
'scaled_fulfillment_costs_per_unit': -0.14, #notice negative weight here
'scaled_return_rate': -0.14, #notice negative weight here
'scaled_repeat_purchase_rate': 0.14
}

# Calculate weighted composite score
product_df['weighted_composite_score'] = sum(product_df[col] * weight for col, weight in user_weights.items()) / sum(user_weights.values())

Weighting Metrics with Regression Analysis

Just as a side note, a more data-driven approach to assigning weights in a composite score is to use regression analysis. This method assigns weights based on each metric’s actual influence on key outcomes, such as overall profitability or customer retention. By doing so, the most impactful metrics naturally carry more weight in the final composite score.

As you can see in the table below (and also shown at the beginning of this blog), when we order by scaled_sales_gross_amount the product ‘Towel 17’ is in top position:

Table 1: eCommerce products sorted by gross sales amount

However, when we order by our new weighted_composite_score , ‘Cushion 152’ comes in top position, whereas the Towel 17 falls all the way down to position 213 out of 500:

Table 2: eCommerce products sorted by weighted composite score

Thanks to the positive and negative Z-scores, we can clearly see in Table 1 that while Towel 17 excels in sales and profitability, it struggles with repeat purchases and has a high return rate — potential indicators of quality or customer satisfaction issues. Addressing these challenges could result in significant improvements in both profitability and customer loyalty.

In Table 2, we can see that Cushion 152 performs exceptionally well in terms of profitability (high gross margin and low costs), with solid conversion rates and a low return rate. While it doesn’t have the highest sales, it stands out as a top performer overall due to its efficiency and customer satisfaction. I would recommend that this website increase this product’s visibility through targeted marketing campaigns and feature it more prominently on the site to drive additional sales.

I also analysed the brands in the dataset, and once again, a different picture emerges when we analyse data through the lens of a Weighted Composite Score.

At first glance, EcoLiving appears to be the top performer based solely on sales_gross_amount. However, our Weighted Composite Score, which balances all key metrics equally, reveals that PureDecor is the most valuable brand overall. This approach allows us to identify the brand delivering the greatest all-around value, rather than focusing on a single metric or dimension of performance:

Table 5: eCommerce products sorted by weighted composite score

In conclusion, implementing a Weighted Composite Score is a simple yet highly effective method for analysing complex datasets that can be easily integrated into your existing reporting tools.

For my clients, this approach has had a significant impact — it has prevented unnecessary cuts to products & brands that were mistakenly thought to be underperforming. It has also helped reallocate resources away from products & brands that were draining budgets without delivering proportional value.

Weighted Composite Scoring can be applied to any area where multiple important metrics need to be balanced. For example, it can help optimise web content, enhance SEO strategies & improve customer segmentation, making it a transformative tool across multiple areas of your business.
